Nutrition tips for kids
Many more children are being diagnosed with high cholesterol, or as overweight or obese. These conditions can cause many health problems for your child such as diabetes and high blood pressure, both now and as he or she moves into adulthood.

By helping your child eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly, you can reduce his or her risk of experiencing these health problems.
How can help a child eat right?
If you prepare healthy foods for your family and eat healthy foods yourself, your child will eat healthier, too.

Make sure to prepare a variety of foods, so your family gets all the vitamins and minerals their bodies need to function properly.

What are some examples of healthy meals?
Breakfast: The first meal of the day is a good time to give your child foods that are high in fiber. Whole-grain breads, cereals, fruit, low-fat or nonfat cheeses and yogurt are also good breakfast foods. Use skim or low-fat milk rather than whole or 2% milk. Fruit juice is usually high in calories and has less nutrients than whole fruit (fresh or canned).

Lunch: Use whole-grain breads and rolls to make a healthier sandwich. Whole grains increase the total fiber in your child's diet and are less processed than enriched white bread. Give your child whole-grain crackers with soups, chili and stew, and always serve fresh fruit (with the skin) with meals instead of chips or other high-calorie options.
Here are some ways to make healthier sandwiches:
Use low-fat or fat-free lunch meats. They are good in sandwiches or cut into strips on top of a salad.
Buy leaner meats, such as turkey, chicken or veggie dogs.
Put leftover chicken or turkey strips in a tortilla to make a cold fajita (add strips of raw red and green peppers and onions). Use fat-free sour cream as a dressing.
Stuff a pita-bread "pocket" with vegetables, fat-free cheese and bits of leftover grilled chicken.
Cut up vegetables such as onion, carrot, celery and green peppers to add to tuna salad. Mix vegetables and water-packed tuna with fat-free mayonnaise or, for a different taste, mix with a fat-free salad dressing.
Chunky bits of leftover chicken mixed with fat-free mayonnaise, raisins, shredded carrots and sliced almonds is a great chicken salad. Serve it in a pita-bread pocket. Top it with salsa for a Southwestern flavor.
Mix cranberry sauce and fat-free mayonnaise to add to a turkey sandwich.
When buying peanut butter, choose an "all-natural" option. For jelly, buy one that 100% fruit and does not contain high fructose corn syrup. This will make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches much healthier.
Sliced ham and low-fat or fat-free cheese with mustard is great on rye bread.
Low-fat cheese makes a good sandwich with tomato slices and mustard or fat-free mayonnaise on a whole-grain roll.
Slice leftover pork tenderloin and top with barbecue sauce for a hot or cold sandwich.
Make grilled-cheese sandwiches with low-fat or fat-free cheese and serve them with raw carrot and celery sticks.
What snacks are good for child?
Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low- or nonfat dair also make great snacks for children. Here are some ideas for ways to serve these foods to your kids:
Fruits:
Bits of fruit stirred into nonfat yogurt
Strawberries
Raisins
Grapes
Pineapple chunks
Orange or grapefruit sections
Bananas cooked lightly in apple juice
Apple slices with all natural peanut butter
Dried fruit mixes
Vegetables:
Carrot sticks
Celery sticks with all natural peanut butter
Raw broccoli and cauliflower florets with a low-fat dip or salsa
Protein:
1% fat or fat-free cottage cheese or ricotta cheese
Water-packed tuna mixed with fat-free mayonnaise on top of celery sticks or whole-grain crackers
Fat-free yogurt topped with sunflower seeds, chopped dried fruit or a spoonful of oat bran
Whole grains:
Cereals or cereal bars that are low in sugar and fat, and high in fiber and protein
Whole-grain crackers, breads or bagels
Sweets and desserts:
Fat-free frozen yogurt
Juice bars
Sherbet and sorbet

[ PcWorld ] Nutrition (FAQs)

Q: I am a vegetarian. However, I have been told that to build up protein it is necessary to have meat since the vegetarian diet does not really have any good substitutes. Is this true? Ranbir
A: Dear Ranbir, it is a myth that meat is the best source of protein! In fact, it is found in the most surprising foods such as brown rice! Besides, pulses, yogurt, cheese, lentils, nuts and seeds are good sources too.

Q: I find it easy to stick to a healthy regime for a few days until I am motivated enough. But how do I make the motivation last longer? Janice
A: Dear Janice, there is something about the word ‘regime ‘ itself that you have used that makes following a healthy lifestyle look like a difficult task. Your diet should be a way of life! Not something you ‘have-to-stick- to’ for a few days. Look at it in a fun way. Once you get started, even if you stick to the principles 80% of the time, it will work for you. With a little margin left for indulgence, you will be fine.

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR SINUS INFECTION

Sinusitis or accessory sinus suppuration is bacterial inflammation of the nasal and contiguous sinuses following acute rhinitis and contiguous sinuses following acute infection especially streptococci. Sometimes the infection from the second bicuspid and first two molar teeth whose roots are near to the antral floor. Sinusitis is an important etiological factor in the causation of many diseases of the lower respiratory tract.

Inflammation of the paranasal sinuses often follows the common cold, influenza, and other general infections. Germs that would normally be eliminated from the body may sometimes find their way into these little sinuses or chambers on each side of the nasal passages. Trouble may be due to inadequate drainage resulting from a deviated septum, or perhaps to the presence of polyps. Any chronic infection within the nose may lead to sinuses.

Acute Sinusitis is characterized by moderate degree of fever and local pain. The latter depends on the site affected: if frontal sinus, forehead; antrum, on one cheek: sphenoidal sinus, deep-seated headache. Headache is more marked in the afternoon.

Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity may also result in generalized inflammation within the nose, and this may extend into the sinuses. Dental abscesses may find their way into the maxillary sinuses, which are located on each side of the nose just above the jaw.

There is a purulent nasal discharge and in some cases, epistaxis. A progressive ill health continues. The patient usually complains of headache, postnatal discharge, pain and perhaps a low-grade fever, lack of appetite, loss of smell and even toothache. The trouble usually begins in one sinus and unless checked it may soon spread to other areas. Most cases clear up rapidly under good treatment, but some go on to the chronic stage. Sinus headaches are usually felt in the forehead and behind the eyes, or in the face just below the eyes. Many patients think they are having frequent colds, when in reality the trouble is due to recurrent sinus infection.

The infection may extend to the eyes, ears, throat and tracheo- bronchial tree occasionally intracranial complications as meningitis, cavernous sinus thrombosis and brain abscess may appear.

In severe cases of sinusitis, the inside of the nose appears boggy and red and may be covered with a thin layer of pus. X-rays of the sinuses may show the presence of fluid or even polyps growing inside the involved sinus. The inflammation may also cause a severe infection of the middle ear, as well as bronchopneumonia, asthmatic attacks and even an abscess of the brain in rare cases.

Chronic sinus infection may not cause any definite symptoms except during exacerbations. This is frequently associated with many chronic respiratory infections.

HOME REMEDIES FOR SINUS INFECTION
Inhale steam 2-4 times per day by leaning over a bowl of boiling hot water or using a steam vaporizer with a towel over the head and bowl to prevent the escape of the steam. This is very effevtive home remedy for sinusitis treatment.
Get plenty of rest. Do not lie down it will make your sinuses feel more stopped-up, so try lying on the side that lets you breathe the best.
Sleeping with your head elevated will encourage drainage during the night.
Eliminate sugar from your diet.
The juice of garlic has on the entire system as it helps dissolve an accumulation of mucus in the sinus cavities, bronchial tubes and the lungs.
Prepare a mixture by adding one eyedropper of 3% hydrogen peroxide, one pinch salt, one pinch baking soda, and purified water. Shake well. Put a little in each nostril and keep in there awhile, making faces to move it around, move head, etc. to move it around.
Always avoid dairy products when you have any sinus congestion of any kind.
Prepare a mixture of these herbs, fennel seeds, flaxseeds and fenugreek seeds. Allow it to steep for a few minutes, stir and drink copious amounts.
For natural cure for sinusitis, put a little salt in the palm of your hand, mix with warm water, plug one nostril and sniff the water & salt solution up. Repeat for the other nostril.
Gargle with salt water and flush your nose/sinuses out with salt water for effective sinusitis treatment.
Chop up two or three cloves of garlic. Put in small cup and cover with about 40 drops of water, let it stand (10-15) min's so the water can absorb the oils from the garlic. Put 20 drops in each nostril. This is also very effevtive home remedy for sinusitis treatment.
Take large doses of vitamin C to cure sinusitis.
Make a solution by adding colloidal silver, diluted tea tree and eucalyptus oil and apply to sinus area.
Avoid taking too much fruit juice. Avoid completely milk and dairy products.
Applying a hot or a cold compress over the inflamed area would also provide relief.
A decoction of mustard seed powder and water, instilled in the nostrils gives relief.
Drinking a lot of water and other fluids would also help.
Keeping a towel, hat or warm scarf over forehead, cheeks as you sleep can really help.
Using a humidifier in the room where you sleep is an excellent way to prevent and treat a sinus infection.
Persons suffering from sinusitis should avoid swimming in swimming pools treated with chlorine, since it irritates the lining of the nose and sinuses.

Gobble your Thanksgiving feast & still keep a tight body

It seems that this week, all I keep seeing everywhere in the media and
in online fitness articles is how you need to control yourself this
Thanksgiving so you don't pack on the pounds from the feasting.

These articles tell you how you need to control your portions and be
disciplined on this holiday where you'll be tempted to stuff your face
with stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey, yams, and all of the pies and
desserts.

Well, I have a different opinion on this. Why should we restrict at
all? After all, it's only 1 day per year that you have this enormous
feast. Why not just eat as much as you want?

Seriously, 1 day of feasting out of a full year is NOT going to make or
break the results you're getting with your fitness routine, as long as
you make sure this is a VERY rare occasion.

As a matter of fact, even if you decide to feast on every holiday that
you celebrate throughout the year, this is still only going to be 8 or
10 feasts per year.

That's less than 1 feast per month... certainly nothing that is worth
worrying about in terms of your fitness results.

In fact, I've written about this before, but OCCASIONAL overeating can
actually have surprising benefits to revamping your metabolic rate via
the leptin response (if you've been restricting calories previously).

I will stress though, that this does only mean occasional overeating.
This means that you still do have to control your caloric intake the
majority of the time if you want the fitness results you're looking for.

But my main point of this email is that I think it's silly to sit there
on Thanksgiving or any other holiday for that matter and try to
restrict yourself too much when these holidays are really only a few days out
of the entire year. Just make sure to get your normal healthy diet
back on track the very next day after the Thanksgiving feast.

So I say... go right ahead and eat as much as you want... Just be sure
you make it to the gym the day after Thanksgiving for a high intensity
resistance training workout.

In fact, training hard with weights the day after Thanksgiving will
give you the best pump you'll feel all year long from the super-saturated
muscle glycogen in your muscle cells.

Alright, enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Feast hard, train hard!

I'll be back next week with a unique dietary trick that I think you'll
find quite interesting. Look out for that email next week.

Cancer up-date

News from John Hopkins

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY (TRY THE KEY WORD) AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY .

Cancer Update from John Hopkins

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water- best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.
Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

(PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT)CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL , U. S.) PLEASE READ 1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer. 3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

7 dont's after a meal

* Don't smoke-Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).
* Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruit 1-2 hr after meal or 1hr before meal.
* Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest.
* Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted &blocked.
* Don't bathe - Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.
* Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live till 99. In actual fact this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake.
* Don't sleep immediately - The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

A "land meat" with more omega-3s than salmon?

I know you've heard all of the buzz over the last few years about the
health benefits of wild salmon and other fish that have higher levels of
omega-3 fatty acids.

However, did you know that there's a "land meat" that has similar
omega-3/omega-6 ratios as wild salmon? In fact, this "land meat" not only
contains as much, or even higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, but
without the possible negatives such as heavy metals (mercury, etc) and PCBs
that can be found in fish frequently.

I've talked about this type of meat before and how it's one of the
healthiest forms of meat you can possibly eat... It's grass-fed beef and
other grass-fed ruminant meats such as bison, buffalo, lamb, and venison.

Now I know that a lot of people will try to convince you that meat is
not good for you... and to be honest I partially agree with them when it
comes to your typical factory farm-raised meat where the animals are
fattened up with huge quantities of grains & soy that are not their
natural diet & given unhealthy doses of hormones, antibiotics, etc.

However, when animals are healthy and eat the diet they were meant to
eat naturally, the meat is actually healthy for us.

Let's take beef for example... When cattle eat mostly grain and soy,
the fat composition of their meat becomes higher in inflammatory omega-6
fatty acids and lower in beneficial omega-3 fatty acids.

On the other hand, when cattle eat mostly grass instead of grains/soy,
their meat becomes higher in omega-3s and lower in omega-6 fatty acids.
In addition, grass-fed beef also contains much higher levels of
conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which has shown some promising benefits in
studies for losing body fat and gaining lean muscle mass.

A similar comparison can be made between wild salmon and farm raised
salmon. Wild salmon is a healthier option than farm raised salmon and has
higher levels of omega-3s because the wild salmon eat what they're
supposed to eat naturally. On the other hand, farm raised salmon are
fattened up unnaturally with grain/soy based food pellets which
detrimentally changes the salmon's fat ratio of omega-6 to omega-3.

The problem is that it is VERY hard to find healthy grassfed meats in
typical grocery stores. In fact, even at health food stores, you might
find some "organic" meats (which is at least a little better than
standard), but it is often hard to find any real grass-fed meats.

Well, about 2 weeks ago, I did some searching and found a great website
that sells all kinds of varieties of grass-fed healthy meats...

http://healthygrassfed.2ya.com

They have everything you could ever want... grass-fed burgers, filet
mignon & any other quality beef cuts, grass-fed buffalo, grass-fed
cheeses, and even free-range chicken and turkey!

And better yet, they deliver it right to your house with no shipping
costs either... and I actually found that the prices were pretty
comparable to what I usually pay at the grocery store anyway.

I'll tell ya... I was like a kid in a candy store when I found this
site. I placed my order for all kinds of goodies on a friday, I got a
shipping notification email that Monday, and my delivery came right to my
door the very next day in a sealed cooler... I couldn't believe the
service I got from this company.

Wouldn't it give you peace of mind to know that you and your family are
eating meat that is actually good for you instead of the mass produced
junk at most grocery stores? I know I'm getting most of my meat from
them from now on.

Everything in my order ended up being awesome... here's my
recommendations:

*the grass-fed filet mignons (delicious and tender!)
*grass-fed burgers and bison burgers when I need a quick but healthy
5-minute meal (use some grass-fed cheese and sprouted grain roll for the
ultimate balanced meal)
*the free-range chicken and turkey sausages (makes great italian dishes
or healthier breakfast sausage)
*grass-fed cheese and butter (higher in CLA and omega-3 than normal
butter or cheese)
*they even have free-range turkeys available for upcoming thanksgiving
(you won't find free-range turkeys in stores)

Plus, besides getting much healthier meat than you'd ever find in the
store, another benefit to this site was that it was like doing my
grocery shopping from my living room, instead of fighting the crowds at the
store.

Well, they've got me hooked, and thought I'd pass on this little
discovery to you. Here's the site again...

http://healthygrassfed.2ya.com

(FYI - from looking at the site, I believe you can only order the meats
if you're in the US and Canada)

Enjoy!

The ab exercise that's a total waste of time

I was at a poker party up in North Jersey over the weekend at a
friend's house. My friend had moved into this beautiful new
home about a year ago, but I had never made it up for a visit
until this weekend.

Well, as they were giving us a tour of the house, we took a peek
into one of their spare rooms which wasn't being used for
anything. The only thing they had in this room was one of those
infomercial "ab loungers" covered in dust... you know, the
ab-chair looking thingy that they hawk on the infomercials as
being the end-all solution to a flabby stomach... telling you
that you can get a flat stomach and perfect abs just by sitting
on this thing and rocking a little bit while you lazily watch
tv.

The cleverly marketed infomercials for these products lure you
in by showing you the ripped sexy midsections of the male and
female fitness models that they hired for the show (who have
never actually used these gadgets themselves...they actually got
their toned near-perfection bodies through following REAL
workouts and strict nutrition!)

Well, since this "ab lounger" was sitting in this vacant room
getting dusty, obviously it wasn't actually being used, so it
was really a waste of their money that they spent on it.

Regardless, even if it was being used regularly, it would never
have given my friends the results they were looking for, because
these infomercial ab gadgets (and all ab exercises for that
matter), don't accomplish the most important aspect of truly
achieving flat six pack abs...

THEY DON'T STIMULATE ANY FAT LOSS AT ALL!

And worse yet, just for kicks, I jumped on this "ab lounger" and
gave it a try... I have to say, I've never done any abs exercise
where I felt it LESS in my abs... As a matter of fact, this
piece of crap lounger didn't even feel like it was making my abs
work at all!

It felt more like a lounge chair I should be using to relax with
a beer at a barbeque.

My point of this story is that there are still thousands of
people every day that fall for these gimmicks and waste their
hard-earned money on every ab-gimmick that comes out next.

So what does it REALLY take to get flat sexy six pack abs?

1. It takes some commitment to doing REAL workouts... full-body
multi-joint workouts using strategic combinations of the most
effective exercises for stimulating the release of fat burning
hormones in your body and increasing your metabolic rate to new
levels.

2. It takes introducing yourself to REAL nutrition... not fad
diets, not restrictive starvation, not overly processed "diet"
foods, not bogus "extreme fat loss" pills... but a truly
nutrient-dense natural balanced diet that FEEDS your body with
what it needs instead of starving it.

3. It takes the right success mindset to achieve these goals so
that you can put everything into action and make it a part of
your daily life for good.

If you don't already have a copy, all of these techniques are
detailed in my internationally best-selling program - The Truth
about Six Pack Abs.

Tens of thousands of users in 143 countries worldwide have
already used the program to change their outlook on true fitness
for good. Check out more info here to see if this program is a

Alright, my stomach is growling for my lunch, so I've gotta go.
My "abs-approved" lunch of the day is:

-A grass-fed bison burger topped with mushrooms and grass-fed
cheddar cheese on an Ezekial sprouted grain bun.
-A side salad of baby lettuce, carrot shreds, olive oil &
balsamic dressing and avocado slices
-A glass of lightly raw honey-sweetened iced green tea

How to eat that candy & still stay lean

**How to Enjoy the Halloween Treats & Still Stay Lean

With Halloween this week, no doubt you're probably surrounded
now by loads of sugar and corn syrup laden candy everywhere you
go... and now you're trying to avoid uncontrollably devouring
all of the candy laying around your house, so you don't blow up
like a balloon! Or you're beating yourself up because you gave
in and ate half a bag of kit-kats.

Well, don't worry about it so much, as long as you consider
this...

Here's a tip you can use on how to combat the typical weight
gain associated with the candy binge that usually happens
throughout this week from all of the halloween candy laying
around. The problem is that you're tempted to indulge but don't
want to add extra blubber on top of those dear abbies.

Well, I say indulge... eat as much candy as you want! Gorge
yourself until you can't eat any more!

Now, here's the caveat... only do this on ONE DAY, and then go
cold turkey! You will not be able to do much damage with just
one single day of over-indulgence, as long as you call it quits
the very next day, and you make sure it doesn't happen again for
a VERY long time.

Actually, the sugar overload will spike your insulin and revamp
your leptin levels when kept to only one day. This, in turn,
increases your metabolic rate (but only when done very
infrequently). So go ahead and enjoy, but then end it quickly,
and get back to your normal healthy balanced diet.

Also, make sure to get a good high intensity weight training
workout done the day after your overeating day, and you'll get
one of the best muscle pumps you'll ever experience!

Same goes for the day after the Thanksgiving feast... a good
high intensity weight training workout the day after
Thanksgiving will give you the biggest muscle pump you'll have
all year long!

By the way, if you want to try some tasty little treats that
taste like dessert, but are actually made of organic dark
chocolate & have a decent dose of blood-sugar controlling
fiber (making them a sensible snack or dessert) check out the
delicious Prograde Cravers (Peanut Butter is my favorite
flavor!)...

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR DANDRUFF

The term dandruff includes several different conditions of the scalp. There is scaling in which the entire scalp may be covered with loose dry scales. When the hair is combed or brushed, or when the scalp is scratched, these scales fall like snow on the shoulders. Often there is itching, as well, and the scalp may be red from scratching.

If the scalp is covered with greasy scales, wash the hair thoroughly every day, using some good soap or medicated shampoo. Frequent washing will not harm the hair.

Itching lesions of the scalp are often due toneurodermatitis especially when it occurs on the back of the head.

Keep the hair and scalp clean by frequent shampoo. Clean your comb and brush after each use.

Mild dandruff is the result of excessive oiliness of the skin and not due to dryness of the scalp. Chronic dandruff may occur due to psoriasis of the scalp. Dandruff can occur to anybody at any age. It should not be left untreated.

The most important point in the treatment of dandruff is to keep the hair and scalp clean so as to decrease the accumulation of dead cells. The hair should be brushed daily to improve the circulation and remove any flakiness. The most effective way to brush the hair is to bend forward from the waist with the head down towards the ground and brush from the nape of the neck towards the top of the head. Massage the scalp daily using one-finger tips and working systematically over the head. This should be done just before or after brushing the hair. Like brushing, this stimulates the circulation, dislodges dirt and dandruff and helps in the hair growth.

People should avoid spicy and greasy food because it helps dandruff to increase and spread. People should add more vegetables and fruits on the diet. It is very essential to take fresh foods avoid taking tinned and canned foods add more green vegetables and fruits.

Strong tea and coffee, processed foods should be avoided for the dandruff.

HOME REMEDIES FOR DANDRUFF

Prepare a mixture by adding two tablespoons of cosmetic vinegar and six tablespoons of hot water. Apply it all over the scalp, parting the hair with a comb. Preferably it should be used at bedtime. Tie a scarf over the hair to avoid staining the pillow. Next morning wash the hair with shampoo. This should be done twice a week for three months. This is very useful home remedy for dandruff.

Massage hot oil into the scalp at bedtime. Next morning an hour before bath, rub lemon juice mixed with cosmetic vinegar (mix 1:2 ratio) into the scalp. Wash the hair with an egg shampoo.
A hot steam bath can be an effective remedy. Massage hot oil with a hot damp towel and leave it on the head so that the steam can fight dandruff. Two towels can be used for this purpose.
Boil five teaspoons of dried used tealeaves in limewater and use it after shampoo. This gives the hair a lustrous shine and provides nourishment too.

Make a solution of 1 ounce each of fresh or dried rosemary and sage in 2 cups of water. Let steep for 24 hours, then use daily as a hair wash. This is also very useful home remedy for dandruff.

Boil 5 Tbsp dried thyme in 2 cups water for 10 minutes. Strain and cool. Pour 1/2 mixture over clean, damp hair. Massage into scalp, do not wash. Use second half of solution another day.
Massage your hair with warm coconut oil and apply the juice of 2 lemons, steam your hair and leave the oil on for about 2 hours. Wash with a mild shampoo. Repeat 2-3 times a week.
For dandruff treatment boil a handful of neem leaves in 4 teacups of water. After cooling and filtering, use for washing hair.
Massage baking soda into the hair and scalp to absorb oil and to loosen dead skin on scalp. Wash thoroughly, use no other shampoos. Initially the hair may seem dry, after several weeks, dandruff will be gone and hair will be smooth and shiny.
Boil: 1-cup water, 1-cup apple cider vinegar, 1 handful of fresh mint leaves. Strain and pour into a container. With fingertips, massage solution into the scalp, let dry without washing out.
For dandruff treatment take 1 part almond oil, 1 part pure sulphur powder, 2 parts 'surgical spirit' and 4 parts distilled water or rose water and mix well. Rub on the scalp.
Take 2 cup water, add 4-5 tablespoons dried thyme and boil for 10 minutes. Cool, strain, and use the mixture to massage scalp. Keep for half an hour.
Dissolve 2 aspirins in any dandruff shampoo. Leave the mixture on your scalp for two minutes. Rinse and wash properly to remove the aspirin particles completely from the scalp.
Make a solution by adding equal parts of dried rosemary, comfrey, witch hazel leaves and nettles to make about 1/2 cup. Add to 2 cups of water in a covered pot. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let steep overnight. Strain. Shampoo and wash hair then use this again for final wash to relieve itchy, flaky scalp.
For dandruff treatment rub a lot of aloe Vera gel into scalp about 10-15 minutes before you wash your hair,. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and shampoo your hair like you regularly do. This will help to get rid of dandruff within a few weeks.
Soak 2 tablespoons fenugreek seeds in water overnight. In the morning grind into a fine paste. Apply all over scalp and leave for ½ an hour. Wash with mild shampoo.
Prepare a mixture of olive oil with the almond oil. Leave it on about 5 min.s after it starts to burn. Wash well to clear dandruff.
Make a solution by mixing 100 g each of amla (Indian goose berry), reetha, and shikakai, and boil in two litre of water until the liquid reduces to half. Use this shampoo for one month. Dandruff will go away and your hair will become thick.
Massage the hair for half an hour with curd, which has been kept in the open for three days, or mix a few drops of lime and amla juice every night before going to bed.
A useful remedy for removal of dandruff is the use of green gram powder. The hair should be washed twice a week with two tablespoons of this powder mixed with half a cup of curd.
Beets have been found useful in dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the fingertips every night. White beet is better for this purpose.
The juice of snake gourd has been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of dandruff. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp for this purpose.
Beat two eggs and add two tablespoons of water to it. Wet the hair and apply the egg mixture over the hair. Now massage your scalp and let the mixture on for ten minutes to fifteen minutes. Then wash the hair with lukewarm water. This helps to prevent hair fall and dandruff.
Boil bhangra leaves in sesame oil for 15 minutes. Let it stand for an hour then strain it. Massage this oil in your head. Leave it for an hour then shampoo your hair.

Dark circles under the eyes tell us about the health of an individual. They are produced due to overstrain, after an illness or an allergy. They can also be the result of undernourishment. But these dark circles do not produce any harm to the body. So anybody with dark circles should not worry about them. In fact, sometimes they're not even an indication of physical problems.

Dark circles can be aggravated by fatigue, allergies, overexposure to the sun, menstruation or pregnancy. But they're usually hereditary; if your parents have them, there are more chances that you do, too have them.

Dark circles are the result of the engorged blood vessels under your eyes. Because the skin under eyes is thinner than skin anywhere else on body, therefore blood vessels there are more noticeable, especially in fair skinned persons. Usually, dark circles are caused by hyper pigmentation of melanin, the substance that gives color to the skin.

In western countries, the kidneys are related to the adrenal glands and with stress levels in life being so high; these glands are very often exhausted. When these glands are weakened, allergies are prevalent. Dark circles under the eyes are known to be a classic symptom of an allergy, together other signs including edema and fatigue.

Dark circles under eyes may also be due to aging which thins the skin around the eyes. Eight hours of sleep is essential. Do not leave cream on the skin around the eyes for long periods. Circles under the eyes can worsen in people who smoke or suffer from allergies.

[PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR COMMON COLD

Although the common cold affects all parts of the body, it usually begins in the nose and throat. Colds are so common that we do not care for it but they can be serious. Most colds are due to virus infections of one type or another. Unfortunately, none of these viruses are susceptible to our present antibiotic medicines. Adenoviruses produce the more serious type of colds, and they are often followed by tonsillitis and sore throat even virus pneumonia, particularly in children. Sometimes the membranes of the eyes are also involved.

The common cold is the most prevalent of all diseases known to man. The average person seems to have two or three colds a year. The condition is highly contagious. When one member of the family has a cold, the others are very likely to have it within a few days.

What makes a person susceptible to a cold? Probably his lowered resistance is a chief factor. Allergic disorders of the nose and throat also make a person more susceptible to colds and other virus infections. Chilling of the body does seem to play a part, particularly in those whose resistance is already weak. Lack of sleep may be another factor.

Any person may carry the cold virus. However, children under six years of age seem readily to pass the infection from one to another, and soon all the family is involved. Colds are always more serious in the younger children.

Congestion of the nasal passages is usually the first sign of cold. The patient may have frequent sneezing and a severe headache. There may be a thin, watery discharge from the nose, requiring the use of many handkerchiefs. The eyes may be red or irritated. Usually there is some rise in temperature, preceded by chilly feelings. The patient may complain of a sore throat and have some difficulty in swallowing. Hoarseness, or laryngitis, indicates that the infection has reached the vocal cords, and the patient may now have to talk in whispers. Later there may be a deep cough, due to bronchitis. This is a much more complication.

Even though scientists claim there is no cure for the common cold, there are natural herbs and vitamin supplements that can be taken to fight against the cold virus.

HOME REMEDIES FOR COMMON COLD

Vitamins are most helpful in fighting against the cold as well as other diseases. Vitamin C, also known as Ascorbic Acid, is helpful in preventing the colds and it can be found in many foods such as citrus fruits, some vegetables.
Zinc is also helpful for cold that can cut colds short. When you first feel that you may be getting a cold, start taking zinc
Garlic, as well as onion, is sometimes taken for the relief of congestion and minor infections.
Horseradish is another herb that has an excellent property to treat sore throat and upper respiratory tract infections, reduces fever, and expels concentrations of mucus.
Another effective remedy for sore throat is to gargle with a strong solution of table salt and warm water. Gargle several times a day.
Echinacea is an herb that acts as nature's antibiotic. It helps to increase the body's immunity and thus helps in fighting against the infection and illness.
Goldenseal is another herb that acts as a natural antibiotic, and can be taken to help fight against the cold.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of table salt to about 5 ml lukewarm water. Use this solution as a nasal drop. Use 1 to 2 drops in each nostril about 3 to 4 times daily. This is an effective home remedy for common cold.
A ginger tea can be prepared by boiling ginger in normal tea. It gives relief to congested nose.
For common cold treatment, drink a teaspoonful of ginger juice mixed with equal quantity of honey.
Take hot water in a bowl and put some Thyme leaves. Inhale vapors by covering head with a towel.
Add 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 shot of lemon juice, 1 shot of whiskey to a coffee cup. Fill the remainder of the coffee cup with steaming hot water, stir, and sip until cold is relieved.
Make hot chicken soup with lots of garlic. Have when hot. It will help unclog nasal passage.
Warm ¼ katori mustard; add 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic. Apply this on nose, chest and back. Cover up and sleep. This is also an effective home remedy for common cold.
Boil half a bowl of water, add few drops of eucalyptus oil and inhale the steam.
Sage is used to cure sore throat, stuffed nose, gingivitis and coughs, is a powerful antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal. Use as a gargle.
Warm up coconut oil. Gently massage the coconut oil over the child’s chest for about 5 minutes. Repeat the same on the upper portion of the back. The massage should be given just before child goes to sleep.
Avoid sugar (even natural sources) as it can impair immune function. Orange juice contains a much higher level of sugar than vitamin C. Therefore consuming lots of orange juice during a cold may do more harm than good.
Chilies, especially Jalapeno, are the best, most available and most effective antiviral.
Elderberry has been used for centuries to treat colds and flu. Recent research indicates that elderberry fruit extract may de-activate cold and flu viruses by preventing them from replicating.
A diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, low saturated fats and whole cereals will provide protection against infective organism. Raw fruits and vegetables are better than the cooked one.
Take 1 tbsp of fresh gooseberry juice with 1/2 tsp ginger. It is a very effective remedy. This can be taken regularly to prevent recurrence of cold.
For common cold treatment, a tablespoon of ajwain crushed in the palms and tied up in a thin kerchief can be used for inhalation to relieve nasal block.
Boil 1 tbsp of pepper powder in a cup of milk along with a pinch of turmeric. Add some sugar for taste. Drink this once a day for three days.

Lies you've been told about saturated fat

I've written many times in the last couple years about the mistaken
beliefs in society about saturated fat and the false perception in the
media AND with MOST health professionals that saturated fat is bad for
you.

If you've seen in some of my articles, I've even showed you why
saturated fat can even be GOOD for you in some cases, despite every
health/fitness professional in the world just accepting the false belief that
it's bad for you.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to FINALLY see a big name
publisher have some guts to publish an article about why everyone in the
world may be wrong about their beliefs about saturated fat.

I received my new issue of Men's Health magazine over the weekend (Nov
issue), and they have a huge 6-page article in there about the faulty
research in the past about saturated fat, and some new emerging research
that is showing why it may actually be more good for you than you
would believe.

I've got to give them credit... the article was VERY well researched
and put together beautifully to summarize where the studies in the past
have gone wrong, and why recent studies are showing that everyone may
have been wrong for the last 5 decades about saturated fat.

I'd highly suggest you read the entire article if you can. If not, I'm
going to try to give you a quick summary of the findings here since it
was a long article...

First of all, did you realize that although doctors, nutritionists,
fitness professionals, and the media all have told you that it's a FACT
that saturated fats are bad for you, this "FACT" has actually never been
proven!

It's actually not a "fact" at all. It was a hypothesis! This goes all
the way back to a flawed research study from the 1950's where a guy
named Ancel Keys published a paper that laid the blame on dietary fat
intake for the increasing heart disease phenomenon.

However, there were major flaws to his study. For one, in his
conclusions he only used data from a small portion of the countries where data
was available on fat consumption vs heart disease death rate. When
researches have gone back in and looked at the data from all of the
countries, there actually was no link between fat consumption and heart disease
deaths. So his conclusions were actually false.

Second, his blaming of fat intake for heart disease was only one factor
that was considered. There was no consideration of other factors such
as smoking rates, stress factors, sugar intake, exercise frequency, or
other lifestyle factors.

Basically, his conclusions which blamed heart disease deaths on fat
intake were really just a shot in the dark about what a possible cause may
have been, even though all of those other factors I just mentioned,
plus many others, may be the bigger cause.

Unfortunately, Keys study has been cited for over 5 decades now as
"fact" that saturated fat is bad for you. As you can see, there certainly
is nothing factual about it.

Since that time, numerous other studies have been conducted trying to
link saturated fat intake to heart disease. The majority of these
studies have failed to correlate ANY risk at all from saturated fat. A couple
of them made feeble attempts at linking saturated fat to heart
disease, however, it was later shown that in those studies, the data was
flawed as well.

Do we actually have evidence that saturated fat may actually be good
for you instead?

Well, let's consider a few examples...

Did you know that there are several well known tribes in Africa... the
Masai, Samburu, and Fulani tribes... where their diet consists mostly
of raw whole milk, tons of red meat, and cows blood? Despite their very
high saturated fat intake, they display extremely low body fat levels,
and heart disease to natives of the tribe is virtually non-existant.

Now most critics of this example will say that it must be related to
superior genetics... however this is false, as when they studied
tribesman who had moved out of their native lands and started eating more
modern day diets, their blood chemistry skyrocketed with heart disease risk
factors.

This is true of certain pacific island countries inhabitants as well.
Several studies have shown that certain pacific island nations had VERY
high intakes of total fat as well as saturated fat from tropical fats
such as palm, coconut, and cocoa. Despite super-high intakes of
saturated fat, these island natives were typically very lean and heart disease
was virtually non-existant.

However, when researchers followed up with islanders that had moved
away from their native island and adopted a typical western diet, the
heart disease factors were through the roof.

In fact, did you know that although saturated fat intake does increase
your LDL bad cholesterol, it actually increases your HDL good
cholesterol even further, hence improving your overall cholesterol ratio, which
has been proven to be more important that just total cholesterol level
(actually total cholesterol is an almost useless number... inflammation
is the REAL problem, but that's a whole different topic).

Another fact worth noting in favor of saturated fat...

Saturated fat is comprised of various different types... the 3 most
common types are stearic acid, palmitic acid, and lauric acid.

Stearic acid is found in animal fat and cocoa in higher levels.
Research continues to show that stearic acid has no negative impacts on heart
disease risks. If anything, it's either neutral or beneficial. In fact,
your liver breaks down stearic acid into a monounsaturated fat called
oleic acid, which is the same type of fat that makes up most of
heart-healthy olive oil. Bet you didn't know that!

Lauric acid is beneficial as well. Not only has it been shown to
increase your HDL good cholesterol levels significantly, but it is also
lacking in most Americans diet and has even been shown to have some powerful
immune-boosting effects potentially. It is even being studied
currently in HIV/AIDS research to help improve immune function in patients.

Tropical oils such as coconut and palm are the best sources of lauric
acid.

Palmitic acid is the other main component of saturated fat and has also
been shown to increase HDL good cholesterol to the same, if not
greater extent than LDL bad cholesterol, thereby making it either neutral or
beneficial, but certainly not bad for you.

So, if all of these researchers have tried so hard over the years to
point the finger at saturated fat, but have continued to fail to show a
correlation between saturated fat and heart disease risk, what are the
REAL culprits for heart disease?

Well, here are the REAL causes of heart disease risk:

*Trans fats (artificially hydrogenated oils)... see my previous article
here for a full explanation -
http://www.truthaboutabs.com/trans-fats.html

*Heavily refined vegetable oils such as soy, cottonseed, corn oil,
etc.(inflammatory inside the body, and typically throw the omega-6/omega-3
balance out of whack)

*Too much refined sugar in the diet (including high fructose corn
syrup)

*Too much refined carbohydrates such as white bread, low fiber cereals,
etc

*Smoking

*Stressful lifestyle

*Lack of exercise

*Other lifestyle factors

So why does it seem that so many attempts over the years have tried to
lay the blame on saturated fat... do you think it might have anything
to do with the muli-bil_lion dollar vegetable oil industry, which has
taken over for cooking oils for what used to be mostly animal fats and
tropical oils in decades past...

hmm... do multi-bill_ion dollar industries really have an influence on
the way data is portrayed to the public? Of course they do! And don't
even get me started on the cholesterol meds industry! Again, I digress.

I hope this article has opened your eyes about the truth about
saturated fat and how you've been misled over the years.

The true FACT is that saturated fat is a neutral substance in your
body, and even beneficial at times, not a deadly risk factor for disease.
The REAL risk factors are what I listed above.

Here are 2 more articles that are must reads about this topic if you
haven't read them before...

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR BOIL

A boil is a tender swelling in the skin surrounded by a large red area. Boils are particularly painful in those areas where the skin is closely attached to the underlying tissues, such as on the nose, ears, or fingers. Boils are more likely to occur in healthy young adults and teenagers.

A carbuncle is a group of boils close together, which may later form one very large boil with several openings to the surface. Boils and carbuncles are not very painful, but they may also indicate the presence of some underlying condition, such as diabetes.

Staphylococcus germs are usually the cause of boils and carbuncles. The pus discharged from the boil is highly infectious, and great care should be taken to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the skin.

At first, a painful red nodule appears on the skin. This grows bigger and then breaks down in the middle where the pus collects. The patient experiences a great deal of irritation and itching. The swelling may not be limited to one hair follicle but may extend to several follicles. When the skin boils ripen, they give out a discharge. Fever may be present sometimes along with the boils.

Boils may take from 10 to 25 days to heal. In most cases, a boil will not heal until it bursts and drains. This can take as long as 5 to 7 days. Since releasing the pus in a boil can lead to more infection, puncturing it at home is not usually advised. If you do lance it, or if it bursts, make sure to sterilize the surrounding area carefully, washing hands after touching the area.

HOME REMEDIES FOR BOIL

Apply warm moist compress three or four times a day over the tender area. This will help to bring the boil to a head and helps in easy drainage.
Always keep some type of ointment on the boil site to prevent the skin from drying and causing a scaring. Keep the area clean and covered.
Take an onion, cut it in half and place a half on a dry frying pan the cut side down. Warm it on a low heat till the "top" of it feels warm to the touch. Then dig out a piece of the core big enough to accommodate your boil. Place on the boil and try to stay still till the onion cools (=15-20 min.)

Take 1/2 teaspoon Colloidal Silver everyday and you will not have any new boils.
Place 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach in a tub of warm to hot bath water. Stay in tub (with infected area under water) for at least 20 minutes. Do this twice a week for one month. Boils come to a head, drain and dry up faster. This is an effective home remedy for boil.
Prepare a mixture by adding a little of baking soda and water together. Put it all over your boil for about 30 minutes and it should be gone or it should be down.
Prepare a thick paste by adding a small amount of flour and vinegar. Place the paste on the boil over night and wrap it with gauze. Over night the paste will harden like a cast. Upon removing the bandage in the morning, the head of the boil should come out.
Peel a banana (a ripe banana works best). Place banana peel on boil and leave it there for as long as you can.
Cut bacon fat from bacon and place over boil. Place bandage and leave on overnight. Boil should come to a head and rupture upon removing bandage
For boil treatment eat raisins as much as you can.
Crack open and discard contents of egg, then take thin white layer of inside shell and place over boil opening (head) then put on bandage overnight. When you wake up take off bandage and the core of the boil come out then will ooze all contents.
Cut a thick slice of a juicy tomato and place it on the area where the boil is and use a tape of some sort to hold the tomato in place and leave it on for about a day. The boil will come to a head and bursts.
Soak a tea bag in very hot water. When it's cool enough to tolerate, place the tea bag on the boil and leave it there until it cools. Repeat this a few times a day until the boil comes to a head and then wash the boil very well with antibacterial soap, open the boil with a sterile needle and drain it.
Open the Vitamin E capsule and put the liquid on the boil. Leave it on. Repeat as needed also take at least 1000mg of Vitamin C, it helps fight infection internally and helps the skin
Take a piece of bread, white or wheat. Dip the piece of bread into a bowl of milk. So the bread is a little soaked with the milk. Take the bread with milk on it and place it over the boil for about 15-20 min. The yeast in the bread will draw out the stuff inside the boil. And the boil will not return again. This is an effective home remedy for boil.
Sprinkle nutmeg on your food and this will dry up boils within a couple of days.
Take internally, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in warm water a day. Continue for several days.
Prepare a mixture by adding one tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, one-tablespoon honey in a cup of hot water and drink at least twice a day.
Mix a paste of oatmeal, add salt and apply directly onto the boilwrap it to keep the poultice in place.
For boil treatment prepare a combination by adding garlic clove, fenugreek, and red clay. It is very effective.
