[PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR COMMON COLD
Although the common cold affects all parts of the body, it usually begins in the nose and throat. Colds are so common that we do not care for it but they can be serious. Most colds are due to virus infections of one type or another. Unfortunately, none of these viruses are susceptible to our present antibiotic medicines. Adenoviruses produce the more serious type of colds, and they are often followed by tonsillitis and sore throat even virus pneumonia, particularly in children. Sometimes the membranes of the eyes are also involved.
The common cold is the most prevalent of all diseases known to man. The average person seems to have two or three colds a year. The condition is highly contagious. When one member of the family has a cold, the others are very likely to have it within a few days.
What makes a person susceptible to a cold? Probably his lowered resistance is a chief factor. Allergic disorders of the nose and throat also make a person more susceptible to colds and other virus infections. Chilling of the body does seem to play a part, particularly in those whose resistance is already weak. Lack of sleep may be another factor.
Any person may carry the cold virus. However, children under six years of age seem readily to pass the infection from one to another, and soon all the family is involved. Colds are always more serious in the younger children.
Congestion of the nasal passages is usually the first sign of cold. The patient may have frequent sneezing and a severe headache. There may be a thin, watery discharge from the nose, requiring the use of many handkerchiefs. The eyes may be red or irritated. Usually there is some rise in temperature, preceded by chilly feelings. The patient may complain of a sore throat and have some difficulty in swallowing. Hoarseness, or laryngitis, indicates that the infection has reached the vocal cords, and the patient may now have to talk in whispers. Later there may be a deep cough, due to bronchitis. This is a much more complication.
Even though scientists claim there is no cure for the common cold, there are natural herbs and vitamin supplements that can be taken to fight against the cold virus.

Goldenseal is another herb that acts as a natural antibiotic, and can be taken to help fight against the cold.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of table salt to about 5 ml lukewarm water. Use this solution as a nasal drop. Use 1 to 2 drops in each nostril about 3 to 4 times daily. This is an effective home remedy for common cold.
A ginger tea can be prepared by boiling ginger in normal tea. It gives relief to congested nose.
For common cold treatment, drink a teaspoonful of ginger juice mixed with equal quantity of honey.
Take hot water in a bowl and put some Thyme leaves. Inhale vapors by covering head with a towel.
Add 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 shot of lemon juice, 1 shot of whiskey to a coffee cup. Fill the remainder of the coffee cup with steaming hot water, stir, and sip until cold is relieved.
Make hot chicken soup with lots of garlic. Have when hot. It will help unclog nasal passage.
Warm ¼ katori mustard; add 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic. Apply this on nose, chest and back. Cover up and sleep. This is also an effective home remedy for common cold.
Boil half a bowl of water, add few drops of eucalyptus oil and inhale the steam.
Sage is used to cure sore throat, stuffed nose, gingivitis and coughs, is a powerful antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal. Use as a gargle.
Warm up coconut oil. Gently massage the coconut oil over the child’s chest for about 5 minutes. Repeat the same on the upper portion of the back. The massage should be given just before child goes to sleep.
Avoid sugar (even natural sources) as it can impair immune function. Orange juice contains a much higher level of sugar than vitamin C. Therefore consuming lots of orange juice during a cold may do more harm than good.
Chilies, especially Jalapeno, are the best, most available and most effective antiviral.
Elderberry has been used for centuries to treat colds and flu. Recent research indicates that elderberry fruit extract may de-activate cold and flu viruses by preventing them from replicating.
A diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, low saturated fats and whole cereals will provide protection against infective organism. Raw fruits and vegetables are better than the cooked one.
Take 1 tbsp of fresh gooseberry juice with 1/2 tsp ginger. It is a very effective remedy. This can be taken regularly to prevent recurrence of cold.
For common cold treatment, a tablespoon of ajwain crushed in the palms and tied up in a thin kerchief can be used for inhalation to relieve nasal block.
Boil 1 tbsp of pepper powder in a cup of milk along with a pinch of turmeric. Add some sugar for taste. Drink this once a day for three days.

Lies you've been told about saturated fat
I've written many times in the last couple years about the mistaken
beliefs in society about saturated fat and the false perception in the
media AND with MOST health professionals that saturated fat is bad for
you.
If you've seen in some of my articles, I've even showed you why
saturated fat can even be GOOD for you in some cases, despite every
health/fitness professional in the world just accepting the false belief that
it's bad for you.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to FINALLY see a big name
publisher have some guts to publish an article about why everyone in the
world may be wrong about their beliefs about saturated fat.
I received my new issue of Men's Health magazine over the weekend (Nov
issue), and they have a huge 6-page article in there about the faulty
research in the past about saturated fat, and some new emerging research
that is showing why it may actually be more good for you than you
would believe.
I've got to give them credit... the article was VERY well researched
and put together beautifully to summarize where the studies in the past
have gone wrong, and why recent studies are showing that everyone may
have been wrong for the last 5 decades about saturated fat.
I'd highly suggest you read the entire article if you can. If not, I'm
going to try to give you a quick summary of the findings here since it
was a long article...
First of all, did you realize that although doctors, nutritionists,
fitness professionals, and the media all have told you that it's a FACT
that saturated fats are bad for you, this "FACT" has actually never been
proven!
It's actually not a "fact" at all. It was a hypothesis! This goes all
the way back to a flawed research study from the 1950's where a guy
named Ancel Keys published a paper that laid the blame on dietary fat
intake for the increasing heart disease phenomenon.
However, there were major flaws to his study. For one, in his
conclusions he only used data from a small portion of the countries where data
was available on fat consumption vs heart disease death rate. When
researches have gone back in and looked at the data from all of the
countries, there actually was no link between fat consumption and heart disease
deaths. So his conclusions were actually false.
Second, his blaming of fat intake for heart disease was only one factor
that was considered. There was no consideration of other factors such
as smoking rates, stress factors, sugar intake, exercise frequency, or
other lifestyle factors.
Basically, his conclusions which blamed heart disease deaths on fat
intake were really just a shot in the dark about what a possible cause may
have been, even though all of those other factors I just mentioned,
plus many others, may be the bigger cause.
Unfortunately, Keys study has been cited for over 5 decades now as
"fact" that saturated fat is bad for you. As you can see, there certainly
is nothing factual about it.
Since that time, numerous other studies have been conducted trying to
link saturated fat intake to heart disease. The majority of these
studies have failed to correlate ANY risk at all from saturated fat. A couple
of them made feeble attempts at linking saturated fat to heart
disease, however, it was later shown that in those studies, the data was
flawed as well.
Do we actually have evidence that saturated fat may actually be good
for you instead?
Well, let's consider a few examples...
Did you know that there are several well known tribes in Africa... the
Masai, Samburu, and Fulani tribes... where their diet consists mostly
of raw whole milk, tons of red meat, and cows blood? Despite their very
high saturated fat intake, they display extremely low body fat levels,
and heart disease to natives of the tribe is virtually non-existant.
Now most critics of this example will say that it must be related to
superior genetics... however this is false, as when they studied
tribesman who had moved out of their native lands and started eating more
modern day diets, their blood chemistry skyrocketed with heart disease risk
factors.
This is true of certain pacific island countries inhabitants as well.
Several studies have shown that certain pacific island nations had VERY
high intakes of total fat as well as saturated fat from tropical fats
such as palm, coconut, and cocoa. Despite super-high intakes of
saturated fat, these island natives were typically very lean and heart disease
was virtually non-existant.
However, when researchers followed up with islanders that had moved
away from their native island and adopted a typical western diet, the
heart disease factors were through the roof.
In fact, did you know that although saturated fat intake does increase
your LDL bad cholesterol, it actually increases your HDL good
cholesterol even further, hence improving your overall cholesterol ratio, which
has been proven to be more important that just total cholesterol level
(actually total cholesterol is an almost useless number... inflammation
is the REAL problem, but that's a whole different topic).
Another fact worth noting in favor of saturated fat...
Saturated fat is comprised of various different types... the 3 most
common types are stearic acid, palmitic acid, and lauric acid.
Stearic acid is found in animal fat and cocoa in higher levels.
Research continues to show that stearic acid has no negative impacts on heart
disease risks. If anything, it's either neutral or beneficial. In fact,
your liver breaks down stearic acid into a monounsaturated fat called
oleic acid, which is the same type of fat that makes up most of
heart-healthy olive oil. Bet you didn't know that!
Lauric acid is beneficial as well. Not only has it been shown to
increase your HDL good cholesterol levels significantly, but it is also
lacking in most Americans diet and has even been shown to have some powerful
immune-boosting effects potentially. It is even being studied
currently in HIV/AIDS research to help improve immune function in patients.
Tropical oils such as coconut and palm are the best sources of lauric
acid.
Palmitic acid is the other main component of saturated fat and has also
been shown to increase HDL good cholesterol to the same, if not
greater extent than LDL bad cholesterol, thereby making it either neutral or
beneficial, but certainly not bad for you.
So, if all of these researchers have tried so hard over the years to
point the finger at saturated fat, but have continued to fail to show a
correlation between saturated fat and heart disease risk, what are the
REAL culprits for heart disease?
Well, here are the REAL causes of heart disease risk:
*Trans fats (artificially hydrogenated oils)... see my previous article
here for a full explanation -
http://www.truthaboutabs.com/trans-fats.html
*Heavily refined vegetable oils such as soy, cottonseed, corn oil,
etc.(inflammatory inside the body, and typically throw the omega-6/omega-3
balance out of whack)
*Too much refined sugar in the diet (including high fructose corn
syrup)
*Too much refined carbohydrates such as white bread, low fiber cereals,
etc
*Smoking
*Stressful lifestyle
*Lack of exercise
*Other lifestyle factors
So why does it seem that so many attempts over the years have tried to
lay the blame on saturated fat... do you think it might have anything
to do with the muli-bil_lion dollar vegetable oil industry, which has
taken over for cooking oils for what used to be mostly animal fats and
tropical oils in decades past...
hmm... do multi-bill_ion dollar industries really have an influence on
the way data is portrayed to the public? Of course they do! And don't
even get me started on the cholesterol meds industry! Again, I digress.
I hope this article has opened your eyes about the truth about
saturated fat and how you've been misled over the years.
The true FACT is that saturated fat is a neutral substance in your
body, and even beneficial at times, not a deadly risk factor for disease.
The REAL risk factors are what I listed above.

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR BOIL
A boil is a tender swelling in the skin surrounded by a large red area. Boils are particularly painful in those areas where the skin is closely attached to the underlying tissues, such as on the nose, ears, or fingers. Boils are more likely to occur in healthy young adults and teenagers.
A carbuncle is a group of boils close together, which may later form one very large boil with several openings to the surface. Boils and carbuncles are not very painful, but they may also indicate the presence of some underlying condition, such as diabetes.
Staphylococcus germs are usually the cause of boils and carbuncles. The pus discharged from the boil is highly infectious, and great care should be taken to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the skin.
At first, a painful red nodule appears on the skin. This grows bigger and then breaks down in the middle where the pus collects. The patient experiences a great deal of irritation and itching. The swelling may not be limited to one hair follicle but may extend to several follicles. When the skin boils ripen, they give out a discharge. Fever may be present sometimes along with the boils.
Boils may take from 10 to 25 days to heal. In most cases, a boil will not heal until it bursts and drains. This can take as long as 5 to 7 days. Since releasing the pus in a boil can lead to more infection, puncturing it at home is not usually advised. If you do lance it, or if it bursts, make sure to sterilize the surrounding area carefully, washing hands after touching the area.
HOME REMEDIES FOR BOIL
Apply warm moist compress three or four times a day over the tender area. This will help to bring the boil to a head and helps in easy drainage.
Always keep some type of ointment on the boil site to prevent the skin from drying and causing a scaring. Keep the area clean and covered.
Take an onion, cut it in half and place a half on a dry frying pan the cut side down. Warm it on a low heat till the "top" of it feels warm to the touch. Then dig out a piece of the core big enough to accommodate your boil. Place on the boil and try to stay still till the onion cools (=15-20 min.)
Take 1/2 teaspoon Colloidal Silver everyday and you will not have any new boils.
Place 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach in a tub of warm to hot bath water. Stay in tub (with infected area under water) for at least 20 minutes. Do this twice a week for one month. Boils come to a head, drain and dry up faster. This is an effective home remedy for boil.
Prepare a mixture by adding a little of baking soda and water together. Put it all over your boil for about 30 minutes and it should be gone or it should be down.
Prepare a thick paste by adding a small amount of flour and vinegar. Place the paste on the boil over night and wrap it with gauze. Over night the paste will harden like a cast. Upon removing the bandage in the morning, the head of the boil should come out.
Peel a banana (a ripe banana works best). Place banana peel on boil and leave it there for as long as you can.
Cut bacon fat from bacon and place over boil. Place bandage and leave on overnight. Boil should come to a head and rupture upon removing bandage
For boil treatment eat raisins as much as you can.
Crack open and discard contents of egg, then take thin white layer of inside shell and place over boil opening (head) then put on bandage overnight. When you wake up take off bandage and the core of the boil come out then will ooze all contents.
Cut a thick slice of a juicy tomato and place it on the area where the boil is and use a tape of some sort to hold the tomato in place and leave it on for about a day. The boil will come to a head and bursts.
Soak a tea bag in very hot water. When it's cool enough to tolerate, place the tea bag on the boil and leave it there until it cools. Repeat this a few times a day until the boil comes to a head and then wash the boil very well with antibacterial soap, open the boil with a sterile needle and drain it.
Open the Vitamin E capsule and put the liquid on the boil. Leave it on. Repeat as needed also take at least 1000mg of Vitamin C, it helps fight infection internally and helps the skin
Take a piece of bread, white or wheat. Dip the piece of bread into a bowl of milk. So the bread is a little soaked with the milk. Take the bread with milk on it and place it over the boil for about 15-20 min. The yeast in the bread will draw out the stuff inside the boil. And the boil will not return again. This is an effective home remedy for boil.
Sprinkle nutmeg on your food and this will dry up boils within a couple of days.
Take internally, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in warm water a day. Continue for several days.
Prepare a mixture by adding one tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, one-tablespoon honey in a cup of hot water and drink at least twice a day.
Mix a paste of oatmeal, add salt and apply directly onto the boilwrap it to keep the poultice in place.
For boil treatment prepare a combination by adding garlic clove, fenugreek, and red clay. It is very effective.

Why do you miss workouts?
I wanted to talk in today's Lean-Body Secrets Ezine about excuses for
why many people don't workout or miss workouts.
Here's a common theme I see all the time at the gym...
Somebody that was doing well working out and finally starting to get
results at the gym all of the sudden stops coming in for several months.
When they eventually come back and start working out again a couple
months later, they're usually back in horrible shape, have gained back all
the weight or more, and lost most of their strength gains that they
worked so hard for.
So while talking to them, I'll ask where they have been the last couple
months, and that's when the excuses start...
--Perhaps it was that they had a special assignment at work and have
been "too busy" to work out lately
--Or perhaps it was that they had a shoulder or arm injury so they
thought that they couldn't work out during this time
--Or perhaps they had a knee, ankle, or leg injury so they thought they
couldn't work out.
--Or perhaps they were busy with house renovations, or family issues,
or too busy with the kids, etc, etc, etc... excuse, excuse, excuse
You can see where I'm going with this... if your health & fitness and
how you look and feel is important to you, then there is no such thing
as an excuse. Either you want it, or you don't, and it's either going to
be a priority in your life, or it's not!
After all, your health and fitness determines not only how good you're
going look and feel every day that you're on this planet, but also how
long you'll exist on this earth to enjoy the time you have with your
friends and family... So with all of that said, why wouldn't you make
your fitness a priority in your life!
Here's my opinion on the example excuses above...
*Excuse #1 - Too busy at work:
Ok, so why don't you squeeze in really brief but really intense 5
minute workouts before and after work each day... after all, that's only 10
minutes of your time, and despite popular belief you CAN stay in
excellent shape working out as little as 5 or 10 minutes a day (as long as
your time is well spent with the right exercises and right intensity).
Actually, our DVDs at http://BusyManFitness.com detail high intensity
short duration workout plans that you can do in as little as 4 minutes a
day and still stay in great shape despite your busy schedule and
perceived lack of time.
"Too busy at work" excuse busted!
*Excuse #2 - Shoulder or arm injury so haven't worked out:
Bum shoulder... so what... are you saying your legs and abs don't work
all of the sudden just because your arm or shoulder is hurt? After all,
most of your fat loss and metabolism-boosting results come from lower
body based exercises anyway, as they burn more calories due to the
larger muscle groups involved.
Your upper body injury just gives you a good reason to focus even more
intensely on your lower body, abs, and interval training during this
period when you won't be able to do upper body exercises.
Shoulder injury excuse busted!
*Excuse #3 - Knee, ankle, or leg injury so haven't worked out:
Ok, so now you're saying that just because you have a leg injury, that
somehow your upper body no longer works? Even if you need to walk in
there on crutches, and then do nothing but seated upper body exercises,
that's a lot better than doing nothing and letting your entire body get
weak and soft during while your leg heals.
Knee or leg injury excuse busted!
Now don't get mad at me about these injury excuses... Believe me, I DO
understand that there are some serious injuries and disorders that do
prevent some people from doing any exercise at all. However, for most
minor injuries, there's no excuse not to at least continue doing some
form of exercise.
*Excuse #4 - Too busy with the house, family, kids, etc:
Once again we need to get back to priorities. If your house and kids
are priorities, why wouldn't your health and fitness be top priorities
also, so that you can enjoy your life and everything and everyone in it!
Remember, you don't need to work out for hours every day to be in great
shape. It's all about maximizing the intensity and amount of full body
musculature you work in a given time period, even if that time period
is just a brief 4 minute daily workout.
Again, the high intensity 4-minute full-body workouts in our
BusyManFitness DVDs are a perfect example of how to do this while maximizing your
brief workout times, saving you more of your precious time for
everything else in your life - http://busymanfitness.com

why many people don't workout or miss workouts.

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR ARTHRITIS
Arthritis is defined as the inflammation of one or more joints. Serious deformities occur in the bones and joints. These may occur in the form of tumours, swellings, and new growths. It occurs usually during the later years of life but it can occur at any age. One or two joints may become completely deformed.
Exact cause of the arthritis is not known. Germs, which cause the tuberculosis, pneumonia can also affect the joints.
Syphilis and gonorrhea can be another cause for arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis is the most serious condition that involves the joints but also the muscles, tendons and other tissues of the body. It begins slowly with mild swelling, pain and tenderness in the joints of the fingers, wrists, knees and feet. Joints of both side of the body are involved in this disease. The joints feel red and warm. During the early phase of the disease the patient complains of fatigue, weakness and pain.
During the time of pain the patient should take rest for one or two hours in a day. The patient must not lie in bed for too long. It will aggravate the symptoms.
Exercise is important in rheumatoid arthritis. It will help to prevent the stiffness of muscles.
Osteoarthritis is a chronic form of arthritis involving any joint but it mainly occurs in largejoints such as fingers. It mainly occurs in women after the menopause, but it may occur in young age also.
In osteoarthritis the cartilage of the joints is destroyed and the bone surfaces become rough and enlarged. This disease begins slowly and with some pain in the joints. The main complaint is pain, which is severe after exercise.
There are several drugs that are used for the pain and inflammation of arthritis, but most of them are not very effective, because they cause lot of side effects. For example ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve), and even other more powerful prescription drugs, causes severe gastrointestinal problems, such as, bleeding ulcers, acidosis, stomach pain, and they interfere with the synthesis of collagen, which is fundamental for the formation of cartilage, if cartilage is not rebuilding itself, more damage is going to occur in the joints.
"There's no one magic food or diet that's going to do away with arthritic pain," says Art Mollen, D.O., director of the Southwest Health Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. "But if a person is overweight and helose weight, it will reduce the stress and pain in spinal column, knees, hips, ankles, and feet."

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR APPETITE
Good appetite is associated with a hypertonic stomach, normal muscular efficiency and digestion. Probably it depends upon pleasant odor and memory of good food and sharpness of appetite. Further some individuals have likings for a particular kind of food often from habit. This food habit is another important item in inducing good appetite.
Hunger is a painful sensation when the stomach is empty for sometime, caused by increased tonic and peristaltic action of the gastric contents. After a normal meal, the stomach slowly relaxes comfortably accommodating the food.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder affecting mainly girls or women, although boys or men can also suffer from it. It usually starts in the teenage years. On account of any mental depression or a fanciful idea (especially for reducing obesity), she takes less food than normal. The appetite gradually lessens.
There is a strong, fear of putting on weight, who suffers from anorexia. There are recommendations regarding how much food is allowed and how much exercise is needed after eating certain amounts of food. Those suffering from anorexia pursue a very low 'ideal' weight. The weight loss may cause hormonal disturbances and women with anorexia nervosa may stop having periods. Body weight is maintained at least 15 per cent below that expected for a person's height. It is self-induced weight loss caused by avoiding fattening foods and may involve taking excessive exercise, using laxatives or diuretics or self-induced vomiting.
Puberty, deaths in the family and other life stresses are all believed to be the main causes of anorexia. Self-induced weight loss includes fasting, low food intake, excessive exercise, diuretic medicines (medicines that make you urinate more) laxatives, diet pills or vomiting.
HOME REMEDIES FOR APPETITE
To stop you from overeating take 10 deep breaths immediately. Take the breaths as deep as your body will allow you.
To decrease appetite stop using artificial sweeteners (even Splenda) and stop eating the sugar-free candies. This is an effective home remedy for appetite.
Take chickweed herb to decrease the appetite.
Drink peppermint tea to increase appetite.
Oranges stimulate the flow of digestive juices, thereby improving digestion and increasing appetite.
The juice of sour grapes is another effective remedy for anorexia. The juice of these grapes should be used in kneading the flour before preparing chapattis. Chapattis made in this manner should be eaten continuously for two to three weeks.
About one teaspoon of the juice of lime should be mixed with an equal quantity of the juice of ginger. One gram of rock salt should be added to this mixture. It should then be placed in sunlight for three days. A teaspoon taken after each meal will tone up the digestive system and improve the appetite.
Apples digestion by stimulating the flow of pepsin, a protein-digesting enzyme, in the stomach.
Three or four cloves of raw garlic should be boiled in a cup of water. This soup can be reinforced with the juice of half a lemon and taken twice daily. This is also an effective home remedy for appetite.
About five grams of ginger should be ground and licked with a little salt once a day for the treatment of this condition.
The application of an ice bag over the stomach for half an hour before meals, and a cool hipbath once or twice daily, will help in curing anorexia.
An early morning sunbath, taken one day, should be alternated with an early morning cool air bath the next day.
Restore the person to a healthy weight.
Restore healthy eating patterns.
Treat any physical complications or associated mental health problems.
Address thoughts, feelings and beliefs concerning food and body image.
Enlist family support.
In more obstinate cases, the patient is removed to a new surrounding in a psychotherapy institution. Interpersonal psychotherapy helps people examine their relationships with friends and family and to make changes in problem areas.
Cognitive-behaviora l therapy teaches patients techniques to monitor and change their eating habits as well as to change the way they respond to difficult situations.
Supplements of vitamins and minerals should be taken to increase the appetite.
Eat an apple to keep the doctor away.
If you live alone, why not think about sharing with friends or relatives for a while.

[ PcWorld ] HOME REMEDIES FOR ANEMIA
Anemia may be defined as the deficiency of the blood as a whole. It may occur due to many reasons.
A person having a normal blood level may lose blood due to serious accident or illness. Our body compensates this loss by pouring in more fluid or plasma. But the red cells are not replaced so quickly. The person may have sufficient fluid in circulation, but the red cell count may be so low that he feels week and fatigued on doing slightest physical work. However slow bleeding from an ulcer in the stomach or intestine may also lead to anemia. If the loss of red cells is more as compare to its production it will definitely produce the signs and symptoms of anemia.
Anemia may also occur due to heavy menstrual bleeding. There are different types of anemia depending upon the different reasons.
Haemolytic anemia results due to weak red cells. In this type of anemia red cells are very sensitive and they are easily destroyed in the spleen.
In other types of anemia the red cells are not properly formed. Their shape becomes spherical or irregular. Then they cause trouble in the spleen, and ulcers may develop in the legs and there are changes in the bone also. In some types of anemia the hemoglobin may be defective in formation and it is not able to carry out its normal functions.
In sickle cell anemia the red cells are of sickle shape and this blocks their passage through the capillaries. These patients may also have jaundice and joint pains along with anemia.
In pernicious anemia the red blood cells may be larger in size than the normal, but fewer in number. Problem arises because the intrinsic factor, which is normally produced by the stomach, is not present to absorb the vitamin B 12 from the intestine.
Iron deficiency anemia occurs due to lower levels of the iron in the body, due to chronic blood loss, or due to poor diet. Iron may also be lost from the body due to chronic diarrhoea. Any patient with severe hookworm infection will also have some anemia. Iron may not be properly absorbed due to insufficient production of hydrochloric acid. Sometimes this occurs during pregnancy. It not affects the mother but also the baby. Babies who are fed on a milk diet for too long suffer from iron deficiency anemia.
The patient complains of weakness, easy fatigue, and irritability. Other symptoms may include heartburn, flatulence, abdominal pains, soreness in the mouth, numbness and tingling in the extremities and palpitation of the heart.
The skin and mucous membranes are pale, the nails are brittle, and there are fissures or sores at the corners of the mouth.
It is important to take a nutritious diet. Diet rich in cereals, rice, pastas, dairy products (milk, yogurt and cheese), vegetables and fruits, meat, poultry and fish, and finally dry beans, eggs, and nuts. Right diet helps to fight against any kind of disease.
HOME REMEDIES FOR ANEMIA
Coffee, tea and ingesting antacids, should be avoided because they decrease iron absorption. Sources rich in iron are lean beef, lean pork, skinned poultry, shellfish, fish, liver, organ meats, egg yolks, pinto, kidney, lima, navy, chick peas, black-eyed peas, lentils, split peas, green peas, spinach, kale, collards, beet greens, chard, broccoli, raisins, prunes, figs, dates, dried peaches, dried apricots, nuts, peanut butter, whole grain breads.
Licavoli says that when you use a cast-iron skillet instead of Teflon coated or aluminum one, you increase the iron content of foods, particularly when you cook acidic foods like tomato sauce.
An effective home remedy for anemia is - Take 1 Cup beetroot juice, 1 cup of apple juice, mixed with either sugar or honey once a day.
To help prevent iron-deficiency anemia in infants, all doctors should recommend breastfeeding, according to Los Angeles pediatrician Paul M. Fleiss, M.D., a pediatrician, lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Public Health and assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. ''Breast milk supplies almost all the nutrients your baby needs,'' he says.
Take a ripe banana with 1 tbsp of honey 2 times a day for anemia treatment.
Our body absorbs iron from meats easier than fruits and vegetables. To increase the absorption of iron from fruits and vegetables, eat them with a good source of vitamin C.
Soak 10 currants overnight. Remove seeds and take it for 3-4 weeks in the morning This is very effective home remedy for anemia.
A mixture of apple and tomato juice also helps to fight against the anemia.
Eating a lot of salad also helps to prevent anemia.
Honey is very good for an anemic person because it helps increase the hemoglobin in the blood. It is rich in iron, copper and manganese.
Intake of vitamin C is very important for the absorption of iron. It is recommended to take two any citrus fruits daily.
Beets are very important in the cure of anemia. Its juice contains potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sulphur, iodine, iron, copper, carbohydrates, protein, fat, and vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and P.
A cold-water bath is an easy method in curing anemia. Two baths are recommended daily. Sunbaths are also beneficial as sunlight stimulates the production of red cells.
3-4 dried figs are recommended a day to prevent anemia.
Deep breathing and light exercise like walking also helps in increasing the red blood cell in the body and thus treats the anemia.
Various yoga asanas like sarvangasana, paschomittanasana, uttanpadasana and shavasana are also beneficial
Do not eat spinach, rhubarb, tomatoes, or chocolate. These foods are high in oxalic acid, a substance that decreases the ability of our body to absorb iron. other iron blockers are sodas, dairy products, coffee and black tea. Avoid cow's milk, which can cause hidden bleeding in the intestinal tract. Do not follow fad diets.

How Jennifer Garner & LL Cool J got their perfect abs
If you had to rate the best bodies for male and female celebrities, at
the top of the pack without a doubt is going to be Jennifer Garner and
LL Cool J.
So how do they do it? How do they get those perfect bodies and
ridiculous abs?
Well, the general answer is that they are dedicated to it... the
priorities in their life involve lots of hard training and disciplined
nutrition. They are NOT lazy. They do NOT use excuses as to why they don't
have time to workout or eat right.
I've actually seen LL work out, and the man is no joke! And if you
think Jennifer Garner got that hard sexy body without some intense and
heavy training, you'd be off your rocker. I've had a sneak peak into her
training routines also, and they're killer!
Now what about the details?
Well, remember a few days ago I told you about the six pack abs
teleseminar that I was going to be a guest speaker for... which starts next
week (and you can get f_ree access to!)
During the teleseminar, Scott even has lined up interviews with
Jennifer Garner's personal trainer as well as LL Cool J's nutritionist, and
will grill them on some of the secret training & dietary techniques they
are using to get such amazing bodies.
You can sign up for the f_ree teleseminars at the following page...
http://tinyurl.com/38wu53
Don't worry though, if you can't make it at the times the calls will be
held, you'll still be able to purchase the mp3 recordings of the
interviews, which also comes with the transcripts of everything, so you'll
still be able to access all of the celebrity abs secrets no matter what.
If you decide to get the mp3 files, you can burn them to CDs or to your
iPod and listen in your car while going to work instead of wasting
your time listening to the same old junk on the radio that you already
hear every day. Why not do something that will improve your body instead?
Again, here's the page where you can get access to these complimentary
calls... http://tinyurl.com/38wu53
Alright, I'm out for today... my dinner is calling me... and an "abs
approved" dinner at that:
-Broiled wild trout (good source of omega-3s just like salmon)
-sauteed baby green beans with olive oil and almond slivers
-fresh ear of corn on the cob
-spinach & carrot salad with homemade olive oil balsamic dressing and
topped with sliced avocado
Mmm...damn that sounds good!
Til next time...Don't be lazy... be lean.

How to banish PMS symptoms easily
Today's topic is for the ladies... Don't worry fellas, I have plenty of
stuff coming up for you next week that you'll be interested in.
How to Banish PMS Symptoms:
I recently saw a study that showed a proven method of significantly
reducing the physical and emotional symptoms associated with Premenstrual
Syndrome (PMS).
A double-blind, randomized clinical trial reported in the Journal of
Alternative Medicine Review compared the effects of standard omega-3 fish
oil vs. Neptune Krill Oil on the symptoms of PMS.
The study evaluated many variables of PMS in the study participants
such as:
1. feeling suddenly sad, tearful, irritable, or angry
2. persistent and marked irritability or anger
3. marked anxiety, tension, or feelings of being "keyed up", or "on
edge"
4. decreased interest in usual activities, e.g., work, friends,
hobbies, etc.
5. getting easily fatigued or marked lack of energy
6. subjective sense of difficulty concentrating
7. marked change in appetite, overeating, or specific food cravings
8. hypersomnia or insomnia
9. other physical symptoms, such as breast tenderness or swelling,
headaches, joint or muscle pain, sensation of bloating, or weight gain.
The outcome of the study concluded that Neptune Krill Oil can
significantly reduce both the emotional and physical symptoms related to PMS,
and is significantly more effective for management of dysmenorrhea and
emotional PMS symptoms compared to standard omega-3 fish oil.
It was found that Neptune Krill Oil has a unique biomolecular profile
of phospholipids, omega-3 fatty acids, and diverse antioxidants that
surpasses the usual fish oil profile.
So the bottom line is that if you want to feel better and reduce your
PMS symptoms, a useful solution may be to try taking Neptune Krill Oil
instead of standard fish oil found at stores.
The highest quality Neptune Krill Oil I've found is only available
online (the EFA Icon) at...
In addition to those benefits, studies have shown that Neptune Krill
Oil has over 47 times the antioxidant power of fish oil! And genuine
Neptune Krill Oil also contains over 300 times the antioxidant power of
Vitamin A & E!
*Warning: If you are allergic to shellfish, have a blood coagulation
disorder, or are taking anticoagulants such as Warfarin (Coumadin),
consult a health care professional prior to use.
You can get your own Neptune Krill Oil here...

"Importance of having Breakfast"
Breakfast can help prevent strokes, heart attack and sudden death. Advice on not to skip breakfast!
Healthy living
For those who always skip breakfast, you should stop that habit now! You've heard many times that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Now, recent research confirms that one of the worst practices you can develop may be avoiding breakfast.
Why?
Because the frequency of heart attack, sudden death, and stroke peaks between 6:00a.m. and noon, with the highest incidence being between 8: 00a.m. and 10:00a.m.What mechanism within the body could account for this significant jump in sudden death in the early morning hours?
We may have an Answer.
Platelet, tiny elements in the blood that keep us from bleeding to Death if we get a cut, can clump together inside our arteries due to cholesterol or laque buildup in the artery lining. It is in the morning hours that platelets become the most activated and tend to form these internal blood clots at the greatest frequency.
However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes. Studies performed at Memorial University in St.Johns, Newfoundland found that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical in modifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the study consumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and a source of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk. So if you skip breakfast, it's important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research. Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice, and perhaps a piece of fruit. This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential Heart Attack or stroke.
So,Please Never Ever Skip Breakfast!!

Excuse #4 busted!
On this topic of excuses and procrastination, here's another article I
did previously that might help you get and stay motivated...
http://www.truthaboutabs.com/get-in-shape-procrastination-excuses.html
I know I take a hard-nosed approach with this stuff, but if finally
getting into shape is important to you, nothing less will do, than to
adopt a true fitness lifestyle and mindset.
I hope today's article helps trigger some new motivation if you've
struggled in the past with excuses or procrastination to getting in shape.
If you liked todays article, feel free to fwd this email on to any of
your friends, family, or co-workers that would enjoy it.

minute workouts before and after work each day... after all, that's only 10
minutes of your time, and despite popular belief you CAN stay in
excellent shape working out as little as 5 or 10 minutes a day (as long as
your time is well spent with the right exercises and right intensity).
Excuse #4 busted!

Building muscle - does the "Pump" matter?
Hello again. It's Mike Geary from TruthAboutAbs.com & BusyManFitness.com
I have a quick video for you to check out today about the "Muscle Pump" that you feel during certain types of workouts, and whether it has any usefulness to building muscle.
My buddy Jeff Anderson (aka - the "Muscle Nerd"), put together this video clip below and a little brief intro. Check it out:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "PUMP"! Mass Building Myth..Or LEGEND?!
By The "Muscle Nerd", Jeff Anderson
Ever see those documentary television shows "Animals Gone Wild"? (no...NOT "GIRLS Gone Wild"! A-N-I-M-A-L-S!)
You know...the ones where normally docile animals scratch, claw, kick, bite, peck, gnaw, or otherwise DEVOUR another animal right before your eyes?
Well, here's a challenge for you...
Throw a hundred fitness consultants in a room and ask them to debate whether or not that huge "PUMP" you get in the gym is REALLY building you any muscle...or if it's just a useless ego booster...then watch them start scratching out eyes as the debate heats up! ;-)
Yep...tempers flare on this topic and opinions are all over the board...so how would you like a little help from the scientific community on whether or not you should be ignoring the pump...or whether it's your best friend in the gym?
The answer may SURPRISE you!
Amaze your friends with your bodybuilding brilliance as you bring the next "pump" argument to a screeching halt with the no-nonsense verdict you're about to learn in this short VIDEO LESSON!
You can watch it RIGHT NOW on your computer screen at...
The Muscle Pump Video
Also if you've been struggling to put on any mucle size, I'd highly suggest you check out Jeff's Optimum Anabolics site.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now here's my take on the issue of "the pump"...
If all you're interested in is fat-loss, you probably don't need to pay much attention to this. However, if you're looking for muscle size, there IS a benefit to dedicating a certain portion of your training time to "the pump". Notice I said "a certain portion"... Not all!
Keep in mind that training for strength and training for size are totally different animals requiring vastly different training protocols, but at the same time, they can be inter-related as well. You will never maximize your muscle size if you never train for pure muscle strength during some cycles. However, by focusing on muscle size during different cycles, you also increase your capacity to gain more strength when you go back to a strength type routine.
This discussion can get pretty complicated, so we'll just leave it at that for today, considering this email was about how "the pump" relates to muscle size. Oh, by the way, there was another legendary figure that believed strongly in "the pump" for size training... it was good old Ahh-nold!
Enjoy the video clip above and be sure to check out Jeff's Optimum Anabolics site
Feel free to fwd this email to any of your friends or colleagues you think may enjoy today's video.
