New study shows age reversal in just 6 months

Hey it's Mike Geary from http://TruthAboutAbs.com with an interesting
study about aging reversal that my buddy Jon Benson sent to me recently.

I was really intrigued with this study so I had to pass it on to you.
Basically, what intrigued me most was that researchers have actually
found indications of age reversal with people using certain exercise
techniques.

So, can you really grow younger as you "age"? Jon's article is
below...Read on to see...

------------------------------------------------------------
Has Science Proven that you Can "Age Backwards"?

by Jon Benson, http://BestFitnessOver40.com/

Of all the studies I have read this one seals
the deal.

The study headline read...

>>> Resistance Training Reverses The Aging
>>> In Human Muscle Tissue

Not "slows" or "repairs"...

Reverses.

I know...it shocked me too.

I have been a champion of the anti.aging
lifestyle I teach in Fit Over 40. It certainly
"looks" like the 52 people in my book are
aging backwards.

See for yourself --

http://BestFitnessOver40.com/

I never thought their muscles were literally
turning back the genetic clock. But this new
research proves this is exactly what is going
on when you exercise with resistance.

Resistance exercise can be weight training or
just using your bodyweight. This is exercise
that is heavy enough to cause some strain but
not so heavy that it is painful or dangerous.

Some of the biology aspects of the study are
frankly over my head. But I will try to give you
the highlights.

If you want to read the study yourself you can
find it on PlosOne.org.

----------------------------------------
The Unreal Findings
----------------------------------------

The mitochondria is the energy factory of the
human cell. As we age our muscles begin to
show what researchers call "mitochondrial
dysfunction". This is what causes all the bad
stuff associated with "sarcopenia."

Sarcopenia is just the wasting away of muscle
due to age and under-use. As we age most of
us will experience a gradual loss of muscle.

The problem? Muscle is active tissue. It is
responsible for most of the calories we use
during the day.

The less muscle you have, the more bodyfat
you will gain if you eat the same amount of
food.

Muscle loss is also related to the onset of many
bone diseases. The muscle that holds our spine
in alignment can deteriorate as we age and
cause major back problems. The same is true
for the muscle and tendons around the knee
and hip joints.

Can you see why muscle loss is a major deal?
Is it any wonder researchers wanted to see if
there was something we could do about it?

Resistance training obviously builds muscle.
And it does so at any age. Just look at anyone
in my book and you will be convinced of that.

But that is not the real find in this study. We have
numerous studies that show you can gain lean
muscle at any age.

>>> This study revealed something extraordinary:
>>> after just six months of resistance training
>>> test subjects showed a "reversal of most of
>>> the genes affected by age" in muscle tissue.

With age and no resistance training, researchers
found 596 genes expressing themselves with
"aging", or decreased mitochondrial function.

But when subjects engaged in resistance training,
in this case simple weight training, look what
happened --

-- Their strength increased by over 20%;
-- And their genes literally "reverted back" to the
same markers as "younger" genes after only
six months of exercise

This is staggering.

It is one thing to maintain muscle as we age. To
gain muscle is even better.

But to know that we are literally reverting our
genes to a "younger version" within the muscle?
And after only six months?

That is downright amazing.

That's not all...

When the older folks in the study began, they were
almost 60% weaker than the younger members of
the study.

In just six months, they were only 38% weaker.

I can tell you from personal experience that in a
few more months they would be even stronger.
In some cases their strength would surpass the
younger test subjects.

I am much stronger now than when I was 23, or
33. I am now 43.

I plan to be stronger at 53.

Strength is not a luxury as we age. It is absolutely
necessary for longevity and health. And this all
takes place at the genetic level.

Just imagine.

----------------------------------------
What You Need To Do
----------------------------------------

Everyone reading this letter needs to start today
with resistance training. It is now a PROVEN way
to make the aging process turn around at the
genetic level within the cell.

And now you know why the role models in my
book "Fit Over 40" look as if they are 15-20 years
younger than they really are --

http://BestFitnessOver40.com/

Genetically, they 'are' younger than their calendar
age.

Isn't that incredible?

Are you ready to join them? Pick up my book today
and you'll find your own roadmap to begin. In a
freee bonus, Craig Ballantyne gives you an 8-week
in-home bodyweight resistance program that is
perfect for beginner and intermediate trainees.

If you already have my book, you will find this in
the Member's Downloads.

I also include dozens of ideal gym-based workouts
for intermediate and advanced trainees.

Combined with the nutrition principles I cover, you
can be on your way to "literally" turning back the
genetic clock.

You'll look better and feel better than you ever
have to boot.

Sincerely,

Jon Benson
Creator, Fit Over 40

P.S. So many people turn to plastic surgery and
drugs for this same effect. There is nothing
wrong with that...but wouldn't you rather use a
natural and safe alternative?

And one that helps you in a hundred other ways?

I have always called resistance training the one
true Fountain of Youth. It certainly makes a body
look and feel younger than any form of exercise
I have ever tried.

Give it a shot yourself. It is a gift that can add
years to your life and take away years from your
looks -- all at the same time.

Thanks Jon for contributing to this Ezine! That was a great article.

Check out the pictures of Jon on his website above...

I think that proves that you CAN age in reverse! The top pic is Jon
today at 43 years old and in incredible shape. The bottom pic is Jon in
his early 30's I believe. I certainly think he looks younger now!

I'm out for today. I'll be back soon. Til then...

Which "healthy" oils are dangerous to your body?

Hey, it's Mike Geary with another Lean-Body Secrets Ezine from
http://TruthAboutAbs.com

Today, I wanted to give you my take on a confusing subject to most
people...

*why some oils you may use in cooking, baking, or other food use are
actually harmful to your body, and why some are healthful.

Here's the deal...

A lot of people seem to think that anything labeled as "vegetable oil"
is good for you. NOT A SHOT!

Most of what is labeled as "vegetable oil" is simply heavily refined
soybean oil (processed under high heat, pressure, and industrial
solvents)...sometimes perhaps it may also be heavily refined cottonseed,
safflower, grapeseed, or other oils too.

In most instances, almost all of these processed oils are NOT HEALTHY
for you.

If you buy processed food or deep fried food, you can usually be
certain that these unhealthy oils are used to prepare your foods (or worse,
it may use hydrogenated versions of these oils... aka - trans fats!).

You may have even bought some of these oils for your own cooking or
baking at home.

The problem with soybean oil, cottonseed oil, grapeseed oil, safflower
oil, and other similar oils is that they are mostly composed of
polyunsaturated fats which leaves them prone to oxidation and free radical
production when exposed to heat and light.

Processed polyunsaturated oils are the most inflammatory inside our
bodies because of their high reactivity to heat and light. This
inflammation is what causes many of our internal problems such as heart disease,
diabetes, and other degenerative diseases.

Note: It's ok if a polyunsaturated fat isn't processed such as in whole
foods like various nuts and seeds... In that case it's not
inflammatory, and is a great source of healthy polyunsaturated fats for you. By
the way, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are both polyunsaturates.

However, all of the vegetable oils listed above are generally heavily
refined during processing, so that makes them already inflammatory
before you even cook with them (which does even more damage).

Here's the actual order of stability of a type of fat under heat and
light (from least stable to most stable):

1. polyunsaturated
2. monounsaturated
3. saturated

Here's something that mainstream health professionals will never tell
you...

Saturated fats are actually the healthiest oils to cook with!

Why? Because they are much more stable and less inflammatory than
polyunsaturated oils.

This is why tropical oils such as palm and coconut oils are best for
cooking... they have very little polyunsaturates and are mostly composed
of natural saturated fats which are the least reactive to heat/light
and therefore the least inflammatory in your body.

That's also why natural butter (NOT margarine) is one of the best fats
for cooking. This all goes directly against what you hear in mainstream
health talk... because most health professionals don't truly
understand the biochemistry of fats, and falsely believe that saturated fats are
bad for you... when in fact, they are actually neutral in most
instances... and saturated fats from tropical oils are actually good for you
as they contain mostly medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) which are
lacking in most people's diets.

In fact, lauric acid is one of the abundant MCTs in tropical oils and
is known to strengthen the immune system. Lauric acid is even being
studied currently in medical studies for controlling contagious diseases.

To summarize... your best cooking or baking fats are generally butter
or tropical oils. Olive oil is ok for lower cooking temps as it's
mostly monounsaturated, so moderately stable. The polyunsaturated oils like
soybean, grapeseed, cottonseed, safflower, etc, are the least healthy
for cooking.

My choices for top oils that I use:

-Virgin Coconut Oil
-Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-Real Butter (grass fed if possible)

Of course, with all of that said... we should keep in mind that trying
minimize our cooking with oils can help to reduce overall calories.
Cooking with oils in moderation is ok and can actually help satisfy your
appetite more, but be careful not to overdo it as the calories can add
up fast.

Here's a related article about good trans fats vs. bad trans fats that
I did previously (an eye opener to most people)...

http://www.truthaboutabs.com/trans-fats.html

I'll be back soon with more Lean-Body Secrets. Til then...

Don't be lazy... be lean.

One thing you MUST do to get lean & ripped

So what's the 1 thing you MUST do if you want to get lean and ripped
and stay that way for LIFE?

You NEED to do this if...

*If you want to be able to eat 1000's more calories than most other
people, yet stay lean on a regular basis.

*If you want to be able to lose body fat at any given time in your
future faster than most people would ever dream of.

THE absolute most important thing you can do to stay lean for life
is...

Build muscle!

There's just no way around it... the amount of muscle mass you carry on
your body has a direct and positive influence on your metabolic rate,
how many calories your body naturally consumes even at rest, and how
easy it will be for you to get and STAY as lean as you want!

Basically, more muscle = higher metabolic rate

That's why some bodybuilders can eat 5000-6000 calories/day and
actually stay single-digit bodyfat lean.

Over a decade ago, when I was 19 years old... I was a scrawny weakling
weighing in at about 135 lbs of lanky bones... that's not an
exaggeration either! I always struggled to gain even an ounce of muscle.

Over the years I learned some important principles about training,
eating, and lifestyle... and at the age of 31 now, I've built up to a
respectable 195 lbs... and am actually leaner than I was at age 19!

I recently met another fitness professional who shared a similar story
to me. His name is Vince Delmonte, and he used to be a scrawny punk as
well...

From talking to Vince, I found out that he used some of the same
techniques I had used, and he was finally able to pack some serious muscle
onto his frame. I was even more impressed with what Vince had
accomplished...

Changing his "skinny punk" ways, Vince changed a few key aspects in his
workouts and his eating habits, and over the course of only 6 months,
he packed on a whopping...

41 lbs of rock solid muscle onto his frame!

All with absolutely ZERO performance-enhancing substances... and
without fancy supplements too.

And that's not an exaggeration either... he even has the pictures to
prove it (not even to mention becoming a champion fitness model after his
transformation)

Check out Vince's impressive transformation pics here...

http://BuildCrazyMuscle.com

Now here's the cool part...

Vince documented all of the techniques he used to pack on 41 lbs of
muscle in only 6 months, and put it all together into a easy to follow
program.

He gave me a copy to review. I must say that it takes a lot to impress
me when it comes to muscle building programs...

But I can honestly say that this is about the best program I've ever
seen if you want the quickest and most effective way possible to pack on
serious muscle fast.

lined up for you and the special bonuses...

Yes, diet soda DOES make you fat

Hey, it's Mike Geary with another Lean-Body Secrets Ezine from
http://TruthAboutAbs.com

We all know by now that soda (aka "pop" in some areas) is one of the
most evil things you can put in your body... the nasty chemicals, the
gut-fattening high fructose corn syrup, and a myriad of health problems
caused by this carbonated cocktail worshipped by those that don't care
about their health or body.

Since you're one of my subscribers, I know that you actually do care
about your health and the appearance of your body.

Surprisingly, many people falsely believe that "diet" soda is in some
way a good thing for losing body fat. In fact, I hear people all the
time proudly state that they eat so healthy and only drink diet soda.

So let's set the record straight...

There is NOTHING even remotely healthy about drinking diet soda. In
fact, I've even seen several studies that showed dedicated diet soda
drinkers got even FATTER than their regular soda drinking counterparts.

Here's some findings from an 8-year University of Texas study that I
had read...

An excerpt from the study author:

"What didn't surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to
overweight and obesity," Fowler tells WebMD. "What was surprising was
when we looked at people only drinking diet soft drinks, their risk of
obesity was even higher."

"There was a 41 percent increase in risk of being overweight for every
can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day," Fowler
says.

Ok, as if we didn't already know how bad regular soda was for us, and
now they're showing us studies that diet soda makes us even fatter than
the already bad stuff!

There's a lot of complicating factors as to why this occurs...

One reason is that the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas create a
negative hormonal response in the body that increases fat storing hormone
production and increases cravings for more sweets and refined
carbohydrates in the time period after consuming the diet drink.

Another reason is that people may subconsciously think that because
they are drinking a diet soda, that gives them more leeway to eat more of
everything else, hence consuming more calories overall.

I've said this all along, but the bottom line is that if you're serious
about your health and body, soda of any kind (and artificial
sweeteners in anything for that matter!) should be avoided at all times, except
for very rare occasions when you can't avoid them.

Another article I did about artificial sweeteners explains more of the
problems with them and good substitutes...

http://www.truthaboutabs.com/artificial-sweeteners-natural-stevia.html

So what is a good alternative to diet sodas?

The best alternatives are good old water with lemon or unsweetened iced
teas... you have plenty of options with teas - green, white, black,
oolong, red... be creative in making your iced teas and you'll enjoy it
more.

I just add a little of the natural non-caloric sweetener stevia to my
iced teas and I love them. I get my stevia here...

**Recent TruthAboutAbs Reader Review**

"Hi Mike,

A few months ago I bought your Truth about abs book with my wedding in
mind. Anyway, I was procrastinating getting started and kept putting it
off. Then, a few weeks ago I finally got started on your program. I
had previously been going to the gym doing the boring machines and the
tedious running etc etc.

After reading your book, one day, I picked up a pair of free weights, a
medicine ball and got to work... I'm amazed, I'm more than amazed, I'm
totally blown away!! I now refuse to work out on machines anymore; I
do HIIT on the rowing machine instead of running (I HATE RUNNING).

I work out 4 times a week for 30-45 minutes and I have seen the biggest
results EVER! I feel fantastic, I'm starting to lose this ugly big
belly, I'm developing and defining my arms, shoulders and back and butt!
And all of this, really after only a few weeks of your method of
training. I haven't even worked through the whole book yet, or all the
exercises yet and as I discover them I work them into my routine!

Thank you for a wonderful book and product. People are still a bit
skeptical when I tell them about the weight training and other workout
methods you use, but I know I'll win them over when they see my results!

Regards from South Africa,

-Libby

3 Desserts that are "six-pack abs" friendly

Hi, it's Mike Geary here with another Lean-Body Secrets Ezine from
http://TruthAboutAbs.com & http://BusyManFitness.com

I don't know about you, but I have always had a serious sweet tooth! No
joke... when I was a kid growing up, my mom would bake a batch of
brownies and I would eat the entire tray in 1 day!

I could get away with that as a teenager because I probably burned
about 5000 cals/day playing sports outside all day.

One of the things I had to learn to conquer over the years as an adult
was to keep my sweet tooth under control so I wouldn't turn into the
typical 30-something guy with the beer belly.

------------------------------------------------------------
My plan of attack to conquer the sweet tooth...
------------------------------------------------------------

What worked for me to beat my sweet tooth was the use of a large
variety of fruits and also super-dark chocolate, and using creative
variations of both.

A piece of fruit, a frozen fruit & protein smoothie, or a couple small
pieces of dark chocolate has totally done the trick to keep my sweet
tooth in check, and has allowed me to stay super-lean over the years
while still enjoying my sweets in small amounts.

Here are my 3 favorite desserts that help me to keep the calories under
control while also satisfying my sweet tooth. I pretty much use a
variation of these almost every day for dessert.

1. Two or 3 small squares of super-dark chocolate (minimum of 70-75%
cocoa content... if less than 70%, usually too much sugar)

2. Frozen banana/chocolate blender ice cream:

This is more of an ice cream consistency rather than a smoothie. I put
1 frozen ripe banana chunked into a blender with 1/3 cup milk, 2 tbsp
non-sweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and a sprinkle of
stevia to sweeten. 1/2 scoop of protein powder is optional too.

Blend it all together to an ice cream consistency. This is a much
healthier lower-calorie, lower-sugar alternative to ice cream, and still
delicious!

I get my stevia from the following site...

http://www.steviva.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.pl?rrc=N&pg=store&affl=m231g

3. I just got hooked on these tasty treats recently... the Prograde
Cravers Peanut Butter flavor is out of this world, and 100% organic, with
dark chocolate and other healthy ingredients... it makes the perfect
healthy dessert or snack during the day without an overload of
calories... only 180 calories.

I ordered my Peanut Butter Prograde Cravers from...

http://natural.getprograde.com/cravers

(Prograde Cravers are only available for the time being in the US and
Canada)

I hope you enjoy these healthier "six pack" friendly dessert ideas!
Feel free to forward this email on to any of your friends, family, or

A superfood that some thought was junk food

Hey, it's Mike G. here. In today's Lean-Body Secrets Ezine, I wanted to
expose another super-food that some people don't realize. In fact,
some people mistakenly think of this food as "junk food".

It's pistachio nuts.

We should all know by now that although nuts are composed of mostly
fat, they are all healthy fat and loaded with tons of vitamins, trace
nutrients, and antioxidants. And pistachios are definitely loaded with
nutrition.

Yes, these should be part of your guilt-free "approved" list of snack
foods. Not only are they great for you, but they're delicious too!

I recently saw a study done on pistachios that divided the subjects
into a control group, a group eating 1.5 oz of pistachios daily, and a 3rd
group eating 3 oz of pistachios daily. It was a controlled university
study done by Penn State researchers.

The results were impressive...

Both of the pistachio groups reduced significantly LDL bad cholesterol,
decreased non-high density lipoproteins (another heart disease risk
factor), and improved all LDL, HDL, and total cholesterol ratios

Vince released his program to the public 1-year ago, and to celebrate
the 1-year anniversary of this muscle building program, Vince has put
together 9 special bonuses.

These 9 bonuses are only available until the end of the day Wednesday
September 12th.

The missing link for fat loss

Hi, it's Mike Geary from http://TruthAboutAbs.com &
http://BusyManFitness.com with today's Lean-Body Secrets Ezine.

We all know that there is a huge abundance of information out there
these days on workouts and nutrition for fat loss and muscle building.

With so much vast information available these days, why is the entire
world still getting fatter every year? Each year that goes by, the
overweight and obese percentages of the population continues to go up
steadily. It's a scary trend!

One of the reasons is that there's a missing link that most people
completely overlook in their quest for their dream body.

To help tackle this "missing link", I called in fitness mindset expert
Scott Tousignant to provide an article for you that I thought would
help to finally get you started in the right direction this fall.

------------------------------------------------------------
Hoping for Fat Loss vs Expecting It

By Scott Tousignant, BHK, CFC
Author of "The Fit Chic" and "The Fit Bastard"
Creator of Unstoppable Fat Loss
http://www.unstoppablefatloss.com/mindset/374

There is a huge difference between hoping to reach your fat loss goals
and expecting that you will achieve them. The major difference is that
those who expect to be living in their dream body have programmed
themselves to succeed and those who are simply hoping are holding doubts
about their chances for success. So how can you avoid falling into the
'hoping' category?

>>>>Eliminate doubt by seeking role models

If you have any doubt in your mind that achieving your fat loss goal is
possible, if you think that you've got to many obstacles and
challenges in your way, if you've failed before and are worried that it's going
to happen again… find proof that it won't!

I guarantee there are many people in this world who have faced greater
challenges than you have and still they accomplished their fat loss
goals. I guarantee that these people failed many times before achieving
their dream bodies, but they refused to give up. I guarantee that they
'expected' to succeed.

Map out a plan – Now that you have role models who have achieved fat
loss success, apply the blueprint that they've laid out for you. Model
their behaviors, attitudes, and actions.

When you have a plan, you know what it's going to take in order to
develop your dream body; What workout programs you are going to follow,
what foods you are going to eat, how much sleep you should get, how often
you write out your goals and visualize your dream body, what you should
record in your journal, how to overcome obstacles and challenges, and
everything else that is required to achieve fat loss success.

Now that you have your plan all mapped out, you've got to know why you
want to achieve this goal. It's time to get fired up and passionate
about how your life is going to change once you are living in your dream
body.

When you reach your fat loss goal, it's not just going to be your dress
size that's going to change. Your self-confidence will blow through
the roof, you may land your dream job or gain a promotion, you may
attract the love of your life, you will have the energy to play with your
children, or even try new activities that you never thought of trying
when you were overweight. The possibilities are endless.

Now all you have to do is "Just do it!"

>>>>Be willing to do whatever it takes

This doesn't mean that you need to go to the gym for 2 hours 7 days a
week. It doesn't mean that you have to be perfect with your diet plan.
Being willing to do whatever it takes means that you have an
understanding of what needs to be done in order to achieve your dream body. It
could mean that you schedule in rest days, reward meals, days where
you do fun activities rather than go to the gym.

It means that when are faced with a challenge or setback, you pick
yourself up, dust yourself off, and drive forward with even greater effort.
The journey towards achieving your dream body is not easy. Accepting
these challenges and setbacks as being a natural part of the processes
and realizing that it is not an opportunity to give up, but an
opportunity for growth, will place you among the people who expect fat loss
success no matter what.

It's easy to hope and dream for a lean and desirable body. Most of us
do that on a daily basis. But it takes a special kind of person to
expect the dream to come true. You now know what it takes to expect
success. Take action and apply these strategies and I expect to see you
living in your dream body very soon.

How a cardio fanatic finally got 6-pack abs

Everyone thinks you have to do tons of cardio workouts to get abs. But that's certainly not true. In fact, if you stop cardio and change your workouts, you'll get your 6-pack abs much faster!

Below, you'll see my good friend Craig Ballantyne from http://beyondcardioworkouts.com/ did an interview with someone who finally changed their training routines and consequently, FINALLY started to get results and started to see her six pack within a few weeks. Let's find out how one female cardio fanatic finally got her 6-pack abs with the help of the Turbulence Training workouts!

CB: CJ, let's start with a little background info on yourself and what you were looking to achieve when you found strength training and interval training.

CJ:
Let's see, I'm a female in my mid 30's and a typical office professional who spends looong hours sitting in front of a computer.

Fitness and nutrition-wise, I grew up understanding the importance of being active and staying healthy. So while I've stayed active most of my life, I recently discovered I still had a lot to learn both about fitness and nutrition.

When I found Turbulence Training I was looking for body composition improvements. I had been introduced to weight training about a year earlier and had made great progress, but had gotten past that 'newbie' effect and really needed something different to jump start my progress again.

CB: How were you doing before?

CJ:
During grad school and working full-time I put aside the active part of my lifestyle for the days and evenings tied to a chair, and the delights of eating at restaurants for 1-2 meals a day. I gained about 20lbs and was at my heaviest ever at 160lbs. Once I completed night school, I put exercise and nutrition back on my priority list and lost those 20lbs, mainly from running 5days/wk.

My second stage started when I discovered weight training. I was about 142lbs and probably 28% BF. After about 6months I lost another 8-10lbs and 7% body fat.

So, when I started Turbulence Training, I had already made good progress, I was probably 133lbs and 21-22% BF.

CB: What were your workouts before TT? Why did they not work as well? How have you improved upon those workouts?

CJ:
Before this I was a steady state cardio fanatic, so I ran 3-5 miles 3x week and strength trained using a 4 day upper/lower body split. This plan did work for about 6-9 months, but then I just stalled. Not sure what the culprit was, just that I knew I needed something different.

When I first started strength and interval workouts I was skeptical that such a short workout only 3x/wk would be enough. I soon discovered that strength and intervals kept the intensity levels up at EACH workout, so the three days and two supersets were actually more efficient than my 4day split and 3 days of running. I also got on an HIIT (interval) program and reduced my slower steady state runs to about once a week.

CB: How have the strength and intervals workouts helped you? What benefits & results have you achieved? What are your gains and improvements and how do they compare to your before stats?

CJ:
I'm stronger, leaner, and faster than before.

On the strength side, my proudest achievements are chin-ups and pull-ups, something I've always wanted to be able to do. I've also improved my 5k times by 2mins. I finally have the muscle definition/athletic shape I've always wanted.

When comparing to my before stats, I've had to throw the scales out the door and use the mirror/compliments as my guide since I have gained a few lbs and BIA hasn't seemed to move, but my clothes have gotten looser and smaller and I'm also making strength and speed gains.

CB: How do you feel in terms of strength and energy?

CJ:
I think my strength gains surprise me most, since I typically have high energy/endurance. I particularly enjoy how my strength gains have transferred to running and bike riding.

What I can lift in the gym just sort of evolves, but when I can climb hills on my bike that I used to walk up, and finish 5ks in times that were once out of my reach, it feels pretty good. J

CB: What features do you like about strength and intervals?

CJ:
It's fun, efficient, and intense. And it works!! When I'm in the gym, I know that I'm making the best use of my time.

CB: Did you change your eating with the guidelines?

CJ:
Not much. I was on a pretty solid eating plan when I started strength and intervals, but am consistently learning about making the right food choices and looking to tweak things here and there. Incorporating a post-workout recovery drink and getting as much variety as possible have been the biggest change in my eating habits since I started.

CB: What would you say to people that ask you about your workouts? Do you get a lot of comments from others?

CJ:
When people ask me about my workouts, I try to hold back some enthusiasm so I don't come across as a crazy fanatic and overwhelm them.

I've had quite a few comments from other people in the gym, either noticing how hard and smart I'm working, or complimenting my progress. One lady even pointed me out and said "I want thighs like that!"

It's always fun to see friends and family or even co-workers that I haven't seen in a while because they remind me of the progress I've made.

The best compliment I get now is a form of imitation. People want to know exactly what I do and ask me for tips. They see it works, and want to know how I've done it, and try to apply it for themselves.

CB: Thanks CJ! Keep up the great work with your time-efficient Turbulence Training fat loss workouts.

Thanks so much for that motivating interview Craig! It shows that if people will get out of this mentality that they must do endless cardio to get in shape, and adopt a research-proven style of training, they will FINALLY see the results they are looking for.

Know the Signs of Depression and Improve Your Life -

Typical signs of depression actually show a change in the way a person has come to think about himself.

"I just can't get myself to do any work around the house. My marriage is falling apart."

"My hair is thinning. I'm losing my looks. No one will care about me anymore."
These are typical thoughts of people who are depressed and show a change in thinking, feeling and acting.

Here are other signs of depression :

Continual feelings of sadness, emptiness and helplessness that seem to have no cause

Loss of interest or pleasure in ordinary activities

Decreased energy, fatigue

Sleep and/or eating problems

Difficulty concentrating and making decisions

Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and helplessness

Irritability, excessive crying

Chronic physical aches and pains that do not go away

Feelings of hopelessness

Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts.

If a person shows several of the above signs of depression for an extended period (2 weeks or more) he should consult a physician.

Although the change may come on gradually, the depressed person is different from the way he was before the onset of his illness perhaps even the opposite of his usual self. There are many signs of depression confirming this change : the successful businessman who believes he is on the brink of bankruptcy, the devoted mother who wants to abandon her children, the gourmet who can't stand food, the playboy who becomes disgusted with sex. Instead of seeking pleasure, the depressed person avoids it. Instead of caring for himself, he neglects himself and his appearance. His instinct to survive may give way to a desire to end his life. His drive to succeed may be replaced by passivity and withdrawal.

The most obvious and typical signs of depression relate to a sad mood: gloomy, lonely, apathetic. The depressed person may find himself crying even when there seems to be nothing to cry about or may find it impossible to cry when a truly sad event occurs. He may have trouble sleeping or wake early in the morning, unable to return to sleep. On the other hand, feeling constantly tired, he may sleep more than usual. He may lose his appetite and lose weight, or eat more than he does normally and gain weight.

Signs of depression also relate to self-esteem. Typically, the depressed person sees himself in a very negative way. He may believe that he is helpless and alone in the world and often blames himself for trivial faults or shortcomings. He is pessimistic about himself, about the world, and about his future. He loses interest in what is going on around him and doesn't get satisfaction out of activities

Seven Things You Can Do Immediately To Ease Depression -

Get out now and walk fifteen minutes. It will get your feet moving and help you feel you are at least able to do something.

Go immediately and be with someone who loves you. It will give you the feeling that you are wanted.

Religious? Say a prayer. Ask God to help you get through this.

Think of a situation, a place where you were very happy. Visualize yourself in that situation once more.

Power of suggestion can do wonders. Say to yourself, "I think I can get better. I have to take it step by step. I will work my way out of this."

Go out and buy a plant, or some flowers. Having something living in your house makes you feel more alive.

If possible, get outside in the sunshine. If it's not possible, turn on some bright lights. Sunshine and bright light are known to make people happier.
5 Tips to Reduce Depression -

While war and poor economic conditions begin to affect people all over the world, more and more people suffer with depression. The more we focus on news events and the business climate, the more we are depressed. Whatever the reason you feel is the cause of your depression, the following five simple tips guarantee you reduce it significantly.

Do not read newspapers.
Newspapers publish negative stories most of the time. Even in peaceful periods, newspapers will find the worst in humanity and place negative stories on display in order to promote sales and subscribers. Stories focused on War, rebellion, death, destruction, doom and despair abound in the newspapers.

You will not miss any news. Friends, family, and your local air raid siren will keep you informed if your attention is needed. Only pay attention to the things you can control in your life. Stop reading the newspaper and reduce the negative input to your brain.

Turn off your television.
Watching and listening about the horrible economy and the losses associated with War will add to depression. In fact, you guarantee the feeling of helplessness. Helplessness allows depression to nurture. If you really need to watch or listen to these kinds of news stories, promise yourself you will bury yourself in the documentaries that are sure to follow in the next 5 or 10 years. A way you can eliminate most of the negative input to your brain is by setting it aside for a date somewhere in the future. I guarantee in the future, you will not find it very interesting.

When visitors come to your home, make sure you turn off your television and keep it off. News television broadcasters are fighting for your guests' attention as they promote despair, war, death, and destruction with many headline news interruptions. Those little banners that run across the bottom of the screen achieve your attention and they take hold of your consciousness. Television will diminish your positive spirit.

Say good things about others -
My Mother always says, "if you can't say anything nice about others, don't say anything at all." However, when you find yourself in a conversation and a relative says, "Remember Uncle Phil?" " He was an alcoholic" Respond with " yes, Uncle Phil was an alcoholic and he was the most charitable person, I have ever met."

Connect your friend's negative statement about Phil with a positive one. Set yourself up to find the positive in anyone's statement and you will keep negative thoughts and depression from overtaking your life. Og Mandino, a great motivator once said, "treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight." "Your life will never be the same again."

Get physical exercise -
Adults forget about exercise when suffering from depression. Make sure you are exercising daily and sending more oxygen to your brain cells. The result of exercise will improve your health as well as your attitude.

Breathe deep and relax -
Practice the following breathing exercise to relax your body and mind. Breathe deeply and relax. For 2 or 3 minutes each hour, take a short mental vacation.

You can engage in this exercise while you are standing in the checkout line at the supermarket or when listening to others while talking on a telephone. You can complete the exercise at home or at work.

Take three deep breathes and relax. As you inhale, concentrate on calm and peaceful thoughts. You may think about relaxing by a mountain, by the ocean or comfortably in your favorite room at home. As you exhale, concentrate on pushing any tension out of your lungs. Focus on positive images in your life. Focus on laughter, love, excitement, and hope.

Keep breathing in and out in this pattern until you feel better. If you practice the exercise often, you will notice wonderful changes in your outlook and in other aspects of your life.
Reduce your depression now! Enjoy your family, your friends, and your life. (Source : via mail)
